The Notation for Continuous Gradual Change of Pitch

The purpose of this paper is to show the most convenient system of notation of continuous gradual change of pitch (CGC) within the possibilities of our present five-line staff of musical notation. Fig. I shows the three most characteristic types of CGC:

Type A: The increase of pitch per unit of time is constant.

Type B: The increase of pitch per unit of time increases.

Type C: The increase of pitch per unit of time decreases.

Of these, type A appears to be less frequently used than the other two.
