Neuropsychopharmacological research in our time is a most exciting and challenging task and comparable in significance to the early period of research on antibiotics. Since the beginning of the psychopharmacological era in 1952, when chlorpromazine was first prescribed for psychiatric patients, a revolutionary development in psychiatric treatment has been set in motion. Subsequently, the extremely important discovery of psychoactive drugs with distinctly different pharmacodynamic properties substantiated that structurally different substances can affect different mental functions.
