1 These words of Justin (cf. i Apol. 67. 4) are certainly to be taken in connection with ethics, as they are immediately followed by a reference to charity. There do not seem to be any direct references in Justin to the actual exercise of discipline in the community, for his motive in writing is apologetic. He is making out a case for the moral goodness of the Christian community, and assumes that the only exercise of discipline necessary is one of mutual exhortation.
