Editorial Team Structure

The team for Experimental Results is split into nine broad subject sections:

  • Chemistry
  • Computer Science
  • Design
  • Earth and Environmental Science
  • Engineering
  • Life Science and Biomedicine
  • Mathematics, Statistics and Probability
  • Physics and Astronomy
  • Psychology and Psychiatry

Each subject team has a Chief Editor (or two) and a team of Reviewing Editors and Editorial Board Members. There are also a team of Statistical Editors which are additional to the subject sections. See team list here.

Below are descriptions of the roles.

Chief Editors

The Chief Editors are responsible for leading their subject section.

They work closely with Cambridge University Press to direct the scientific quality for their subject and advise on the journal’s direction. They are also expected to build and maintain a strong team of Reviewing Editors and Editorial Board Members.

On occasion, they will assist with handling the peer review of papers, as requested by the Reviewing Editors. They will also work with Cambridge University Press to arbitrate any ethical issues that arise in relation to Experimental Results, adhering to the COPE guidelines.

Reviewing Editors

The Reviewing Editors are responsible for managing the peer review process and making final decisions on the papers.

They invite reviewers, ensuring at least two satisfactory reviews are received. If the reviewers suggest that extra data validation is needed, the Reviewing Editors send the paper to one of the Statistical Editors for verification. They will then make a final decision to accept or reject the paper based on the reviewers’ and Statistical Editor’s recommendations.

Statistical Editors

The Statistical Editors are responsible for assessing the validity of data in manuscripts, as requested by the Reviewing Editors.

They evaluate statistical concerns or questions raised by the reviewers, and assess aspects such as appropriateness of an analytical approach and whether the inference drawn from a statistical analysis is justified. They then advise the Reviewing Editors.

Editorial Board

The Editorial Board are responsible for reviewing papers or recommending contacts to approach for reviews, as requested by the Reviewing Editors.

Social Media Editors

The Social Media Editors are responsible for increasing awareness of and engagement with Experimental Results across the Science, Technology and Medicine subject area using social media.
