The Seventh Member State: Algeria, France, and the European Community

Join us via Zoom on Monday, July 25, from 12:30 to 2, for a book talk with Megan Brown, Assistant Professor of History at Swarthmore College. The topic of discussion will be Brown’s recently published book, The Seventh Member State: Algeria, France, and the European Community (Harvard University Press, April 2022). The book tells the surprising story of how Algeria joined and then left the postwar European Economic Community and what its past inclusion means for extracontinental membership in today’s European Union. Comments will be offered by Prof. Dr. Kiran Klaus Patel, Chair of European history at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität, and Peo Hansen, Professor of Political Science at REMESO, Linköping University, Sweden. The discussion will be chaired by Daniela Caruso, Jean Monnet Chair and Professor of Law at Boston University.

This event is co-sponsored by the European Law Open, Cambridge University Press and the Center for the Study of Europe at Boston University.
