ANGELA FIORE writes:

José María Domínguez has kindly pointed out to me an error in my account of the paper by Leticia de Frutos in a report on the conference Devozione e passione: Alessandro Scarlatti nel 350° anniversario della nascita, published in Eighteenth-Century Music 8/2 (Reference Fiore2011), 358–361. The offending sentence reads: ‘Prior to his arrival in Naples to succeed the Duca di Medinaceli as Viceroy, the Marchese del Carpio had seen something of Scarlatti's successes in Rome’ (359). In fact the Marchese del Carpio arrived as viceroy in Naples in 1683 and died there in 1687, while Medinaceli took the charge in 1696 (and remained there until 1702); between Carpio and Medinaceli there was one further viceroy, Santisteban (1688–1696). Therefore a better rendering of this sentence would simply be ‘Predecessor of the Duke Medinaceli as Viceroy in Naples, the Marchese del Carpio had seen something of Alessandro Scarlatti's successes in Rome’.
