IMMATURE STAGES AND BIOLOGY OF THE NORTH AMERICAN CADDISFLY GENUS PHANOCELIA BANKS (TRICHOPTERA: LIMNEPHILIDAE)

Abstract

Larvae of Phanocelia canadensis (Banks) were found inhabiting the floating sphagnum fringe of acidic bog ponds. Phanocelia canadensis has a 1-year life cycle with autumnal emergence. This is the first morphological and biological information available for immature stages of this genus.

Résumé

Des larves de Phanocelia canadensis (Banks) ont été observées dans la sphaigne flottante de la bordure des étangs de tourbière acide. Le cycle de P. canadensis dure 1 an avec émergence en automne. Ces observations sont les premières concernant les stades immatures du genre Phanocelia.
