Extract

Araniella proxima (Kulczyński, 1885) occurs in northern Europe (Blanke 1982) and northern Asia (Marusik et al. 1992), but has not been previously reported from North America. Our attention was drawn to this species when we identified as A. proxima a male Araniella collected by Keith Roney at Peter Pond Lake, Saskatchewan (55°55'N 108°36'W) on 10 July 1989.
