Meligethes heteropus Gerstaecker (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae), a new pest of bulrush millet in West Africa

Abstract

Vast populations of Meligethes heteropus Gerstaecker have recently been found on millet in Nigeria. The damage they cause is described and the previously unknown male is described and figured. The validity of characters previously used in the diagnosis of Meligethes is discussed.
