Summary

The Alpines Steinschaf is an old and traditional sheep breed living in the Alps for several hundred years. In 1985 only a few small flocks of this breed could be identified in special alpine regions in Germany. A breeding programme was established by some interested breeders and official breeding organisations. To maintain rare breeds for the future, it is necessary to develop special programmes for their use and marketing. In 2004 the breeders in Germany and Austria created a programme to market high quality products made of Alpines Steinschaf wool. The project ran very successfully, and the population of the Alpines Steinschaf has been increasing annually since then.

Résumé

La race Alpines Steinschaf est une race de moutons ancienne et traditionnelle qui vit dans les Alpes depuis des centaines d'années. En 1985, on ne pouvait identifier que quelques petits troupeaux de cette race dans des régions alpines spécifiques de l'Allemagne. Certains sélectionneurs intéressés et les organisations officielles de sélection ont établi un programme de sélection. Afin de maintenir les races rares pour l'avenir, il est nécessaire de développer des programmes spéciaux concentrés sur leur utilisation et sur leur commercialisation. En 2004, les sélectionneurs de l'Allemagne et de l'Autriche ont créé un programme visant à commercialiser les produits de haute qualité de la laine de cette race de moutons. Le projet a beaucoup de succès et, depuis cette année, la population d'Alpines Steinschaf augmente tous les ans.

Resumen

La Alpina Steinschaf es una antigua y tradicional raza ovina que ha vivido en los Alpes a lo largo de cientos de años. En el año 1985 solo pudieron ser identificados algunos rebaños poco numerosos de esta raza en zonas alpinas especiales de Alemania. Algunos criadores interesados, junto con las organizaciones oficiales de cría, establecieron un programa de mejora. Para mantener razas raras de cara al futuro, es necesario desarrollar programas especiales para la utilización y la comercialización de las mismas. En el año 2004 criadores de Alemania y Austria crearon un programa para comercializar productos de alta calidad fabricados a base de lana de esta raza de ovejas. El proyecto está teniendo mucho éxito y, desde aquel momento, la población de Alpina Steinschaf ha ido aumentando cada año.
