* The publication of the above review offers a welcome opportunity for the Board of Editors to acknowledge its gratitude to the International Law Fund and to the Secretary of the Fund, Mr. E. Lauterpacht, for a grant which made it possible for the American Journal of International Law to begin in 1959 its section on “Contemporary Practice of the United States Relating to International Law.” This section of the Journal was inspired by “The Contemporary Practice of the United Kingdom in the Field of International Law,” originally published in the International and Comparative Law Quarterly and subsequently as an independent publication.

The Contemporary Practice section of the Journal may be thought of as a progenitor of the Digest of United States Practice in International Law. Mr. Rovine has recently been responsible for this section of the Journal which has provided on a current basis many of the items that have subsequently appeared in the first volume of the Digest of United States Practice in International Law.
