Summary

The Introduction lays out the key aspects of this study: families enduring and transcending slavery in specific urban spaces. The book begins with a micro-study of a mother and her son in Puebla's San Pedro hospital and their recourse to the ecclesiastical authorities to keep them close. It then details the general lack of studies on slavery for colonial Puebla and situates this particular book in the historiograpy.
