Summary
Palliative and end of life care is everybody’s business. Generalists need to be competent in not only recognising the dying process and prescribing anticipatory medication, but also have the ability to correctly diagnose the pathology of a symptom that is causing distress. Although not in widespread use, POCUS is a skill that provides invaluable diagnostic and procedural capabilities to clinicians involved in palliative care.
