Summary
Roth engages with notions and representations of trauma in many of his works, confronting large- scale collective traumas such as the Holocaust as well as individual traumas faced by his characters. This chapter will provide an overview of the way trauma theory has been and can be applied to Roth’s works, as a means of illuminating the ways he explores some of the darker corners of human experience, even when he does so through his tragicomic style.
