Summary
All of my quotations from Gramsci's writings were taken from the original Italian and translated into English by me. This was a natural procedure to follow, given that my aim was to develop my own interpretation of his thought, and given that no complete translation of his works (or even of the Notebooks) exists in English. There exist, however, two useful English translations of large portions of the Notebooks: Selections from the Prison Notebooks and Selections from Cultural Writings. Therefore, to facilitate the consultation of Gramsci's text for readers with no access to the original Italian, I have compiled the following table, which gives the location in the critical edition (Quaderni del careere) of all passages from the Notebooks translated in these two volumes. I have listed the pages of the critical edition first, so that when the readers want to consult the passages from which my quotations are taken, they can easily look up the number and get the corresponding page for the English. Note that the frequent gaps in the pagination from the critical edition indicate that many passages are not included in the available translations. Some pages of these translations have no Italian counterpart because they contain commentary by the translators and editors. Note also that the correspondence is precise only to the extent of indicating which Gramsci note in the original corresponds to which page(s) in translation; for notes of less than one page, this makes no difference; however, for longer notes this entails further work by the reader to find the exact passage.
