Deeds relating to the Ship on the Hoop (ff. 22r–24r)

Summary

Folios 22r–24r contain deeds relating to the property of “The Ship on the Hoop” in the Shambles, and have red-ink titles at the top of pages, on f. 22r “Le Shippe – ad macellas [in the Shambles] perquisita [bought/acquired]”, then on the following versos “le Shippe” and on the following rectos “ad macellas”.

Grant by executors of Hawise atte Holmes to Hugh de Wychyngham [29 March 1347]

May those present and future know that we, John Mounde, citizen and corn-dealer of London, and Robert de Berkwey, corn-dealer, executors of the testament of Hawise atte Holmes, formerly wife of Richard atte Holmes, formerly citizen and corn-dealer of London, by virtue and authority both of the testament of the aforesaid Robert atte Holmes and of the testament of the aforesaid Hawise his wife, have granted, sold and by this present deed of ours have confirmed to Hugh de Wychyngham, citizen and mercer of London, the whole of that brewhouse with three shops and its other appurtenances which formerly belonged to Richard atte Holmes in the parish of St Nicholas in the Shambles next to the alley called Pentecost Lane, London, which brewhouse and shops are situated between the tenement of Thomas Poyntel on the east side and the aforesaid alley of Pentecost Lane on the west, and the tenement formerly held by Nicholas Crane on the north side and the “royal street” on the south side.
