Quitclaim and grant of Adam de Clyve to Hugh de Rockingham [n.d. (mid-13th c.)]

May those present and future know that I, Adam de Clyve, son of Robert Le Sumeter, have demised, granted, quitclaimed, renounced for myself and my heirs, and by this my present deed have confirmed in perpetuity to Hugh de Rokyngeham, goldsmith, and his heirs and assigns, all the right and claim which I had or in any way could or should have had in the whole of that annual quit-rent which Adam de Benetleya, goldsmith, and his wife Matilda formerly had and held in West Cheap Ward in the parish of St Mary Colechurch, i.e. from five shops with appurtenances in Bordhawe, and were formerly those of Thomas Adrian, son of John Adrian, and Joanna his wife, the daughter of the late Gerard Bat, citizen of London, which are situated between the tenement of John de Gisors towards the east on one side and Bordhawe Lane on the other side towards the west, and extending from West Cheap on the north side as far as the tenement formerly of Serlo de la Bordhawe. And also in eight shillings annual quit-rent from the house of Roger Le Avener, which rent formerly was that of Alexander the avener. And in twenty-four shillings of annual quit-rent from the house of Ralph de Bordhawe. And in a certain house in the said Bordhawe Lane which is situated between the tenement of the said John de Gisors towards the east and the said Bordhawe Lane towards the west, and extending from the north from the house of the said Roger the avener as far as the tenement of the new hospital4 towards the south.
