Summary
This chapter – like the book of which it is a part – addresses the intersection of two challenges, one about the urban core and one about the legal academy. In the case of this chapter, both challenges concern education. One challenge is the continuing failure of the schools serving the children of the urban core to meet the needs of those children and to equip them for full participation and opportunity in our economic and civic life. The other challenge is the struggle of legal education to forge a pedagogy and a curriculum that can effectively introduce law students, not only to legal doctrine and argument, but to the complexities of what lawyers do and to law in its full social context.
