1607 Del sonare sopra il basso

Per tanto dividerno essi stromenti in duoi ordini: cioe in alcuni, come fondamento: et in altri, come ornamento. Come fondamento sono quei, che guidano, e sostengono tutto il corpo delle voci, e stromenti di detto Concerto: quali sono, Organo, Gravicembalo etc. e similmente in occasion di poche e soli voci, Leuto, Tiorba, Arpa etc. Come ornamento sono quelli, che scherzando, e contrapontegiando, rendono più aggradevole, e sonora l'armonia: cioe Leuto, Tiorba, Arpa, Lirone, Cetera, Spinetto, Chitarrina, Violino, Pandora et altri simili.

Medesimamente li stromenti di corde, alcuni contengono in loro perfetta armonia di parti, quale è l'organo, Gravicembalo, Leuto, Arpadoppia etc: alcuni l'hanno imperfetta, quale è Cetera ordinaria, Lirone, Chitarrina: et altri poco, ò niente, como Viola, Violino, Pandora etc.

Noi per tanto trattaremo primamente di quei del primo ordine, che sono fondamento, et hanno perfetta armonia, e nel secondo luogo diremo di quei, che servono per ornamento.

Al lector.

La colera de España ha sido la causa mas principal (discreto Lector) que aya facado á luz esta obrecilla, porque veo que ninguno es tan fl ematico como es menester para enseñar el arte de tañer la guitarra, y assi no se maravillen los que deseavan ser instruydos en esta arte, si al cabo de tres dias sus maestros estavan muy cansados de enseñarles, porque nos tiene tan oprimidos à todos los Españoles este humor colerico, que qualquier cosa que emprendamos, por corta quesea nos parece muy larga. Considerando pues yo la falta que avia en toda esta tierra por no haver algun Autor tratado desto, (alomenos que no sepa) he querido escrivir con este estilo, el modo de templar, y tocar rasgado esta guitarra de cinco, llamada Española, por ser mas recibida en esta tierra que las otras, y el modo de poner en ella qualquier tono, para que sirva de maestro, y tambien paraque los dicipulos delle no estèn sujetos à tanta miseria como es la que nos dà este humor.
