Summary
Eine erste Untersuchung bietet H. Graßimann, KZ. 9, Iff.: Über die Verbindung der stummen Konsonanten mit folgendem v und die davon abhängigen Erscheinungen. Weiter G. Boehling, Schicksale und Wirkungen des w-Lautes in den idg. Sprachen I, Hannover 1882. Veraltet.
pw, bw, bhw. Die Verbindung der Labiale mit w bietet der Aussprache erhebliche Schwierigkeiten, und es sind diese Lautgruppen denn auch kaum irgendwo erhalten. Den Schwund des w müssen wir annehmen, nur ist es die Frage, ob er idg. oder einzelsprachlich war. Im allgemeinen wird man sich wohl dahin entscheiden, daß der Schwund eingetreten ist, sobald die Laute zu-sammengestoßen sind.
Eines der sichersten Beispiele bietet der Stamm bhu, der im lat. fui usw. vorliegt. Neben 1. fuam, lit. buvaū ‘ich war’ stand ein bhwām, worauf 1. amā-bam usw. zurückgeht. Weiter hierher abg. be ‘er war’ : gr. έϕύη.
Dazu kommen die Fälle, die man auf Grund des Ablauts erschließen kann, vgl. IGr. 2, 161.
gr. ϕήβομαι, lit. béegu ‘fliehe’, abg. bêgŭ ‘Flucht’ : gr. ϕεύγω 1. fugio usw.;
ai. badhirás ‘taub’ : got. bauρs ‘stumm, taub’;
d. Ball : lit bulìs ‘Hinterbacke’. ai. bulis ‘weibliche Scham’ usw.
Anm. Nach Jacobsohn, KZ. 42, 272 f. soil gr. πτ auch auf pw zurückgehen. Ich finde aber kein überzeugendes Beispiel.
tw ist verhätnismäßig häung, dürfte aber wohl in manchen Fällen auf eine Vollstufe teu zurückgehen.
