The following reviews are selected from among the more popular music journals in France which appeared during Franck's professional career. The pourpose of this appendix is to provide researchers with primary source materials regarding reception history and contemporary critical views of Franck's music during his lifetime. These do not include reviews of Franck as a performer except in those instances where he performed his own music. Also included are occasional non-performance reviews of Franck's music such as essays and apprecations of specific compositions written by contemporary authors and critics. Many of the reviews are very brief, merely a sentence or two. Nevertheless, the information offered provides insights into the contemporary opinions of Franck's music. Some of this information has been gathered from the indices of the Répertoire International de la Presse Musicale series (RIPM) when indicated. This listing is not meant to be comprehensive, but rather it is a sampling of reviews from throughout Franck's career. All entries are arranged alphabetically by title of composition and then chronologically.
