Summary
This is not a comprehensive list, merely one that encompasses those works which have come within my knowledge. It should not be understood as evidence that all these publications have been consulted or analysed in the course of my research.
Most of the works were recorded from the H. C. P. Bell Collection at the Colombo Museum, but I have also made use of the bibliographies in Bryce Ryan (1953), Patrick Peebles (1973) and H. A. I. Goonetileke's A Bibliography of Ceylon, Zug: 1970 and 1976, and some titles supplied by Dr K. N. O. Dharmadasa. H. C. P. Bell has also inserted comments and identified those authors who used nom de plumes. These have been incorporated in the notes, while the author's real name is placed within square brackets.
Unless otherwise stated, all these publications are in Sinhalese. In one or two cases the title page has a title in both English and Sinhalese, in which case the English title has been adopted (without imposing a correct transliteration). Translations of the Sinhalese titles have been provided in notes printed at the end of the appendix. I am grateful to Dr K. N. O. Dharmadasa for his assistance in the translation of these titles and the transliteration of Sinhala words and names. It is likely that some errors have been made in the dates of publication attributed to some works.
