Summary
As a young journalist I was told “You should never be the story.” However, in this case, I think my story is a good example of what some PCOS women endure throughout their lives.
Imagine being told as a 16-year-old teenage girl “You’ll never have children.” It was shocking. I also clearly remember being told “You have polycystic ovary syndrome” and being utterly confused about what it was, as I’d never heard of it before. Mum says I cried for about 24 hours. Then I boldly declared, “If I can’t have children, I’ll have a career instead.” I don’t remember saying that at all, but Mum says I did.
