Geometric optics in an ideal magnetohydrodynamic fluid

Abstract

The propagation of small monochromatic disturbances in a stable ideal magnetohydrodynamic fluid is treated by the method of geometric optics. The medium is trirefringent and requires six systems of rays. The problem of a point radiator is solved in the small wave-length limit where the theory holds.
