Summary
Tal vez la faceta más destacada de Antonio Prieto (Almería, 1930) sea la de filólogo, siendo especialmente importante su labor en el ámbito de la literatura española del Siglo de Oro. Sin embargo, su producción novelística es también muy abundante, y ha sido reconocida en numerosas ocasiones desde que ganara en 1955 el Premio Planeta con su primera novela, Tres pisadas de hombre. Entre sus escritos de crítica literaria, no hay ninguno dedicado en excusiva a Gabriel Miró, pero sí hay un número considerable de menciones a su obra en estudios sobre otros temas o autores.
Aparece una primera e importante mención en su Morfología de la novela (1975), para ejemplificar el concepto de estilo:
Frente a la concreción de la estructura (expuesta y fabricada sobre unos elementos dados, ya creados en obra), el estilo de una obra literaria es algo que se siente desde que se inicia el contacto con la expresión literaria. Es la señal de la individualidad del sujeto en el discurso y se siente y percibe como algo personal tocado de un cierto misterio (también para el emisor) que explica que en época clásica se definiera el estilo como un no sé qué […]. Al llegar a las páginas 25 de Misericordia, de Pérez Galdós, y de El obispo leproso, de Gabriel Miró, el receptor ha sentido ya dos estilos distintos, sabe (sin comprobación lingüística) que está ante dos novelistas muy distintos.
