Summary

The introduction to this book summarises the focus and scope of this study. In the final two sections of the introduction, I summarise how the various treatises that transmit ars nova theory relate to one another (‘The Treatises’), and articulate some degree of scepticism regarding the prevailing hypotheses regarding the composition dates of these treatises (‘Traditional Datings’)
