Worksites are an important setting to promote healthy behaviors as 143 million adults are employed full-time and spend 8-10 hours per day at the workplace. Participation in health promotion programs have been shown to have a “dose response” relationship with health care costs, meaning health care costs decrease as employee involvement in health promotion activities in the workplace increase. Also from the employer perspective, it is important to note that obesity is a risk factor for many other chronic conditions, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer and is known to be related to increase injuries and health care costs. Motivating employees to participate in a number of wellness activities may provide benefits not only for obesity prevention but other desired outcomes such as: risk reduction, risk avoidance, reduced health costs, and improved productivity measures. Employers should be concerned as forecasts suggest that by 2030, 42% of the adult population will be obese. In fact, among employers, the costs of medical expenses and absenteeism increase as employees become more obese. The cost burden of obesity (BMI 30 or greater) ranges from $462-$2,027 among men and $1,372-$2,164 among women in comparison to normal-weight employees. However, halting this trend over the next few decades by maintaining (vs. increasing) current prevalence of obesity could potentially save billions in medical care expenditures related to obesity. Employers can be part of the solution by offering workplace wellness programs and facilitating opportunities for physical activity, access to healthier foods and beverages, and incentives for disease management and prevention to help prevent weight gain among their employees.

The idea that the town of Venta Icenorum (Caistor-by-Norwich) was laid out in the early Flavian period, as part of the Roman reaction to the Boudican revolt, has become canonical in literature on Roman Britain. Drawing on the results of recent excavations, this paper re-evaluates the evidence relating to the establishment of the street grid and questions the idea that the town reflects a coherent act of urban planning. It concludes by arguing that previous interpretations of the site within a ‘Boudican’ paradigm are fundamentally flawed.

We examined the sensitivity of the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (AVLT), California Verbal Learning Test (CVLT), Boston Naming Test (BNT), and Multilingual Aphasia Examination Visual Naming subtest (MAE VN) to lateralized temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) in patients who subsequently underwent anterior temporal lobectomy. For the AVLT (n = 189), left TLE patients performed more poorly than their right TLE counterparts [left TLE = 42.9 (10.6), right TLE = 47.7 (9.9); p < .002 (Cohen's d = .47)]. Although statistically significant, the CVLT group difference (n = 212) was of a smaller magnitude [left LTE = 40.7 (11.1), right TLE = 43.8 (9.9); (p < .03, Cohen's d = .29)] than the AVLT. Group differences were also present for both measures of confrontation naming ability [BNT: left LTE = 43.1 (8.9), right TLE = 48.1 (8.9); p < .001 (Cohen's d = .56); MAE VN: left TLE = 42.2, right TLE = 45.6, p = .02 (Cohen's d = .36)]. When these data were modeled in independent logistic regression analyses, the AVLT and BNT both significantly predicted side of seizure focus, although the positive likelihood ratios were modest. In the subset of 108 patients receiving both BNT and AVLT, the AVLT was the only significant predictor of seizure laterality, suggesting individual patient variability regarding whether naming or memory testing may be more sensitive to lateralized TLE. The one-dimensional 1×1 and 1×2 tunnel structures of manganese dioxides, pyrolusit(β-MnO2) and ramsdellite (R-MnO2), respectively, were chemically intercalated with LiI. Two 7Li resonances were observed in lithiated pyrolusite. One isotropic resonance arising at 110 ppm shows a short spin-lattice relaxation time (T1 ∼ 3 ms) and was assigned to Li+ ions in the 1×1 tunnel structure. The other isotropic resonance arising at 4 ppm shows a long spin-lattice relaxation time (T1 ∼ 100 ms) and was assigned to Li+ ions in diamagnetic local environments in the form of impurities such as Li2O or on the surface of the MnO2 particles. Three 7Li resonances were observed in lithiated ramsdellite at very different frequencies (600, 110 and 0 ppm). The resonance at 600 ppm, which is observed at low lithium intercalation levels, is assigned toLi+ ions coordinated to both Mn(III) and Mn(IV) ions in the 1×2 tunnels, while the resonanceat 110 ppm is due to Li+ ions coordinated to Mn(III) ions and appears at higher Li levels. The resonance at 0 ppm is associated with a long spin-lattice relaxation time (T1 ∼ 100 ms) and is also assignedto Li+ ions in diamagnetic impurities.
