In most traditional and in-transition societies, the superstition of superiority of men to women has been a great barrier for women's progress in social life. As women have limited job opportunities in these societies, they are always under stress and anxiety get a job to be independent or to keep it in a tight competition with men. The presence of negative competitions at work causes the women to transfer their problems to the house and express their anger form inequality to their husbands and sons. The phrases such as “Men are always the same” or “Men can do but prejudice” at home refer to the negative interactions they have had at work. On the other hand gender inequality for women has a negative feedback and they try to percolate it to the system. The experienced women always make fun of the novice and increase their anxiety. The hierarchy of depression for these novice women became wider and wider at the bottom. This depression and anxiety from losing the job result in different reactions. They don’t mention their mother's status at work as an important thing or the sign of superiority. This paper investigates the psychological effects of gender inequality for women at work and home.

The primary and secondary laminar flows in annuli with longitudinal grooves and driven by pressure gradients have been analysed. There exist geometric configurations reducing pressure losses in primary flows in spite of an increase of the wall wetted area. The parameter ranges when such flows exist have been determined using linear stability theory. Two types of secondary flows have been identified. The first type has the form of the classical travelling waves driven by shear and modified by the grooves. The axisymmetric waves dominate for sufficiently large radii of the annuli while different spiral waves dominate for small radii. The secondary flow topology is unique in the former case and has the form of axisymmetric rings propagating in the axial direction. Topologies in the latter case are not unique, as spiral waves with left and right twists can emerge under the same conditions, resulting in flow structures varying from spatial rings to rhombic forms. The most intense motion of this type occurs near the walls. The second type of secondary flow has the form of travelling waves driven by inertial effects with characteristics very distinct from the shear waves. Its critical Reynolds number increases proportionally to $S^{-2}$, where $S$ denotes the groove amplitude, while the amplification rates increase proportionally to $S^{2}$. These waves exist only if $S$ is above a well-defined minimum and their axisymmetric forms dominate, with the most intense motion occurring near the annulus mid-section. Geometries that give preference to the latter waves have been identified. It is shown that the drag-reducing topographies stabilize the classical travelling waves; these waves are driven by viscous shear, so reduction of this shear decreases their amplification. The same topographies destabilize the new waves; these waves are driven by an inviscid mechanism associated with the formation of circumferential inflection points, and an increase of the groove amplitude increases their amplification. The flow conditions when the presence of grooves can be ignored, i.e. the annuli can be treated as being hydraulically smooth, have been determined.

The constrained coverage path planning addressed in this paper refers to finding an optimal path traversed by a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to maximize its coverage on a designated area, considering the time limit and the feasibility of the path. The UAV starts from its current position to assess the condition of a new entry to the area. Nevertheless, the UAV needs to comply with the coverage task, simultaneously and therefore, it is likely that the optimal policy would not be the shortest path in such a condition, since a wider area can be covered through a longer path. From the other side, along with a longer path, the UAV may not reach to the target in due time. In addition, the speed of UAV is assumed to be constant and as a result, a feasible path needs to be smooth enough to support this assumption. The problem is modeled as an Epsilon-constraint optimization in which a coverage function has to be maximized, considering the constraints on the length and the smoothness of the path. For this purpose, a new genetic path planning algorithm with adaptive operator selection is proposed to solve such a complicated constrained optimization problem. The proposed approach has been compared to some classical approaches like, a modified version of the Artificial Potential Field and a modified version of Dijkstra's algorithm (a graph-based approach). All the methods are implemented and tested in different scenarios and their performances are evaluated via the simulation results.

We examine the transient evolution of a negatively buoyant, laminar plume in an emptying filling box containing a uniform porous medium. In the long time limit, $\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}\rightarrow \infty$ , the box is partitioned into two uniform layers of different densities. However, the approach towards steady state is characterized by a lower contaminated layer that is continuously stratified. The presence of this continuous stratification poses non-trivial analytical challenges; we nonetheless demonstrate that it is possible to derive meaningful bounds on the range of possible solutions, particularly in the limit of large $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ , where $\unicode[STIX]{x1D707}$ represents the ratio of the draining to filling time scales. The validity of our approach is confirmed by drawing comparisons against the free turbulent plume case where, unlike with porous media plumes, an analytical solution that accounts for the time-variable continuous stratification of the lower layer is available (Baines & Turner, J. Fluid Mech., vol. 37, 1969, pp. 51–80; Germeles, J. Fluid Mech., vol. 71, 1975, pp. 601–623). A separate component of our study considers time-variable forcing where the laminar plume source strength changes abruptly with time. When the source is turned on and off with a half-period, $\unicode[STIX]{x0394}\unicode[STIX]{x1D70F}$ , the depth and reduced gravity of the contaminated layer oscillate between two extrema after the first few cycles. Different behaviour is seen when the source is merely turned up or down. For instance, a change of the source reduced gravity leads to a permanent change of interface depth, which is a qualitative point of difference from the free turbulent plume case.

Mechanics of deformation in miniaturized indirect extrusion (IE) and their resulting process outcomes are shown to be dependent on the dimensional scale of the plastic deformation zone. Using optically transparent dies as prototypes, the effect of process length-scales on the strain, strain-rate, and rotation fields is elucidated using digital image correlation. In this regard, in situ experiments were performed on commercially pure Lead (Pb) and Aluminum (Al 1100) as prototypical nonwork/work hardening materials. By overlaying these measurements with microstructural characterization via electron backscattered diffraction, the effect of deformation volume on process–structure mappings is identified. Herein, visco-plastic self-consistent framework-based modeling of the evolution of crystallographic textures was investigated to achieve insights into the trajectories of microstructure evolution and process outcomes during IE. These findings provide a beneficial background about characteristics of plastic deformation zone and its distribution to optimize and control the properties of miniaturized components.

The output power and the temperature profile of a copper vapour laser were investigated versus frequency with various kinds of back mirror in its resonator cavity. A semi-experimental method was used for measuring the plasma temperature and obtaining the temperature profile with various back mirrors. The obtained plasma temperature through this method has good agreement with the operational temperature of the laser.

It is known that longitudinal grooves may stabilize or destabilize the travelling wave instability in a channel flow depending on the groove wavenumber. These waves reduce to the classical Tollmien–Schlichting waves in the absence of grooves. It is shown that another class of travelling wave instability exists if grooves with sufficiently high amplitude and proper wavelengths are used. It is demonstrated that the new instability mode is driven by the inviscid mechanism, with the disturbance motion having the form of a wave propagating in the streamwise direction with phase speed approximately four times larger than the Tollmien–Schlichting wave speed and with its streamwise wavelength being approximately twice the spanwise groove wavelength. The instability motion is concentrated mostly in the middle of the channel and has a planar character, i.e. the dominant velocity components are parallel to the walls. A significant reduction of the corresponding critical Reynolds number can be achieved by increasing the groove amplitude. Conditions that guarantee the flow stability in a grooved channel, i.e. the grooved surface behaves as a hydraulically smooth surface, have been identified.

In this paper, a method for the indirect solution of the optimal control problem (OCP) in the presence of pure state variable inequality constraints (SVICs) and mixed state-control inequality constraints (SCIC), without a need for a close initial guess is presented. In the proposed method, using the finite difference approximation (FDA), the pure SVICs are converted to SCIC. Here, the distance of the constraint function to the feasibility bounds of the constraint is computed in every situation and the control signal is chosen appropriately to facilitate the constraint stays safe. In this method, prior knowledge of the numbers and sequences of activation times is not required. So, it can be simply implemented in continuous boundary value problem (BVP) solvers. The proposed method simply applies the SVICs and since the constraint is directly applied on the control signal, it improves the convergence. On the other hand, because of the convergence problem in the indirect solution of OCP, the simple homotopy continuation method (HCM) is used to overcome the initial guess problem by deploying a secondary OCP for which the initial guess can be zero. The proposed approach is applied on a few comprehensive problems in the presence of different constraints. Simulations are compared with the direct solution of the OCP to confirm the accuracy and with the penalty function method and the sequential constraint-free OCP to confirm the convergence. The results indicate that the FDA method for handling the constraints along with the HCM is easy to apply with acceptable accuracy and convergence, even for highly nonlinear problems in robotic systems such as the constrained time optimal control of a two-link manipulator (TLM) and a three-link common industrial robot.

The travelling wave instability in a channel with small-amplitude longitudinal grooves of arbitrary shape has been studied. The disturbance velocity field is always three-dimensional with disturbances which connect to the two-dimensional waves in the limit of zero groove amplitude playing the critical role. The presence of grooves destabilizes the flow if the groove wavenumber $\def \xmlpi #1{}\def \mathsfbi #1{\boldsymbol {\mathsf {#1}}}\let \le =\leqslant \let \leq =\leqslant \let \ge =\geqslant \let \geq =\geqslant \def \Pr {\mathit {Pr}}\def \Fr {\mathit {Fr}}\def \Rey {\mathit {Re}}\beta $ is larger than $\beta _{tran}\approx 4.22$, but stabilizes the flow for smaller $\beta $. It has been found that $\beta _{tran}$ does not depend on the groove amplitude. The dependence of the critical Reynolds number on the groove amplitude and wavenumber has been determined. Special attention has been paid to the drag-reducing long-wavelength grooves, including the optimal grooves. It has been demonstrated that such grooves slightly increase the critical Reynolds number, i.e. such grooves do not cause an early breakdown into turbulence.

Analysis of pressure losses in laminar flows through annuli fitted with longitudinal grooves has been carried out. The additional pressure gradient required in order to maintain the same flow rate in the grooved annuli, as well as in the reference smooth annuli, is used as a measure of the loss. The groove-induced changes can be represented as a superposition of a pressure drop due to a change in the average position of the bounding cylinders and a pressure drop due to flow modulations induced by the shape of the grooves. The former effect can be evaluated analytically while the latter requires explicit computations. It has been demonstrated that a reduced-order model is an effective tool for extraction of the features of groove geometry that lead to flow modulations relevant to drag generation. One Fourier mode from the Fourier expansion representing the annulus geometry is sufficient to predict pressure losses with an accuracy sufficient for most applications in the case of equal-depth grooves. It is shown that the presence of the grooves may lead to a reduction of pressure loss in spite of an increase of the surface wetted area. The drag-decreasing grooves are characterized by the groove wavenumber $M/ {R}_{1} $ being smaller than a certain critical value, where $M$ denotes the number of grooves and ${R}_{1} $ stands for the radius of the annulus. This number marginally depends on the groove amplitude and does not depend on the flow Reynolds number. It is shown that the drag reduction mechanism relies on the re-arrangement of the bulk flow that leads to the largest mass flow taking place in the area of the largest annulus opening. The form of the optimal grooves from the point of view of the maximum drag reduction has been determined. This form depends on the type of constraints imposed. In general, the optimal shape can be described using the reduced-order model involving only a few Fourier modes. It is shown that in the case of equal-depth grooves, the optimal shape can be approximated using a special form of trapezoid. In the case of unequal-depth grooves, where the groove depth needs to be determined as part of the optimization procedure, the optimal geometry, consisting of the optimal depth and the corresponding optimal shape, can be approximated using a delta function. The maximum possible drag reduction, corresponding to the optimal geometry, has been determined.

The balancing of robotic systems is an important issue, because it allows significant reduction of torques. However, the literature review shows that the balancing of robotic systems is performed without considering the traveling trajectory. Although in static balancing the gravity effects on the actuators are removed, and in complete balancing the Coriolis, centripetal, gravitational, and cross-inertia terms are eliminated, but it does not mean that the required torque to move the manipulator from one point to another point is minimum. In this paper, “optimal spring balancing” is presented for open-chain robotic system based on indirect solution of open-loop optimal control problem. Indeed, optimal spring balancing is an optimal trajectory planning problem in which states, controls, and all the unknown parameters associated with the springs must be determined simultaneously to minimize the given performance index for a predefined point-to-point task. For this purpose, on the basis of the fundamental theorem of calculus of variations, the necessary conditions for optimality are derived that lead to the optimality conditions associated with Pontryagin's minimum principle and an additional condition associated with the constant parameters. The obtained optimality conditions are developed for a two-link manipulator in detail. Finally, the efficiency of the suggested approach is illustrated by simulation for a two-link manipulator and a PUMA-like robot. The obtained results show that the proposed method has dominant superiority over the previous methods such as static balancing or complete balancing.
