A new quaternary compound AlCeCo2Ni2 was synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. The powder pattern of AlCeCo2Ni2 was indexed and refined, giving a hexagonal structure, space group P6/mmm (No. 191) with the CaCu5 structure type. a = 4.9242(2) Å, c = 4.0524(1) Å, V = 85.1 Å3, Z = 1, ρx = 7.85 g cm−3, F30 = 130.2(0.010, 30), and RIR = 0.71(2).

The ternary compound of AlCu4Y was synthesized by melting under argon atmosphere in the arc furnace. High-quality X-ray powder diffraction data of AlCu4Y have been collected using a Rigaku SmartLab X-ray powder diffractometer. The Rietveld refinement results of the X-ray diffraction pattern for the AlCu4Y compound showed that the AlCu4Y is the hexagonal structure, space-group P6/mmm (No. 191) with a = 5.0658(1) Å, c = 4.1569(1) Å, V = 92.38 Å3, Z = 1, and the density is 6.66 g cm−3, and the intensity ratio RIR is 1.96.

A new quaternary compound PrAlFeNi3 was synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. The powder pattern of PrAlFeNi3 was indexed and refined, giving a hexagonal structure, space group P6/mmm (No. 191) with the CaCu5 structure type, a = 5.1132(2) Å, c = 4.0737(1) Å, V = 92.19 Å3, Z = 1, ρx = 7.20 g cm−3, F30 = 173.61 (0.0054, 32) and RIR = 0.77.

The CeCo3Ni2 compound was synthesized by arc melting under argon atmosphere. High-quality powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) data of CeCo3Ni2 have been collected using a Rigaku SmartLab X-ray powder diffractometer. The refinement of the XRD pattern for the CeCo3Ni2 compound shows that the CeCo3Ni2 is a hexagonal structure, space group P6/mmm (No.191) with a = b = 4.9081(2) Å, c = 4.0034(2) Å, V = 83.52 Å3, Z = 1, and ρx = 8.6347 g cm−3. The Smith–Snyder FOM F30 = 112.7(0.0089, 30) and the intensity ratio RIR = 0.48.

A new ternary compound Ho2AlGe3 was synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. The powder pattern of Ho2AlGe3 was indexed and refined, giving an orthorhombic structure, space group Pnma (No. 62) with the Y2AlGe3 structure type: a = 6.743 98(8) Å, b = 4.163 73(5) Å, c = 17.5834(2) Å, V = 493.74 Å3, Z = 4, ρx = 7.73 g cm−3, F30 = 202.7 (0.004, 37), and RIR = 1.21.

Crystal and X-ray powder diffraction data are presented for the Al3Ho2Si2 ternary compound. The powder pattern was indexed and refined on a monoclinic cell with the Al3Y2Si2 structure type with space group C12/m1, a = 10.1096(2) Å, b = 4.020(6) Å, c = 6.5734(6) Å, β = 100.848(2)°, V = 262.37 Å3, Z = 2ρx = 5.910 g cm−3, F30 = 142.8(0.006, 35), and RIR = 0.91.

A new compound Er3Co4Al12 was prepared by arc melting under argon atmosphere. The powder X-ray diffraction data of Er3Co4Al12 were successfully indexed, giving a hexagonal structure with a = 8.6185(2) Å, c = 9.2347(3) Å, and unit-cell volume V = 594.04 Å3. Compound Er3Co4Al12 has the Gd3Ru4Al12 type-structure, Z = 2 and space group P63/mmc.

An X-ray diffraction pattern for ErNi2Ge2 at room temperature is reported. ErNi2Ge2 is tetragonal with lattice parameters a=4.0191(2) Å, c=9.7643(2) Å, space group I4/mmm, and Z=2. The lattice parameters derived from Rietveld analysis agree well with the results of a least-squares refinement.

Indexed powder diffraction patterns and related crystallographic data are reported for ErNiSb, which is not represented in the X-ray Powder Diffraction File. The compound ErNiSb is cubic [space group F43m, Z=4, a=6.2693(1) Å]. The R=0.067 indicates that experimental intensities agree well with the calculated patterns.

The crystal structure of the rare earth (RE) compound CeFeGe3 has been studied by X-ray powder diffraction and refined by the Rietveld profile fitting method. The compound has the tetragonal BaNiSn3-type structure, space group I4mm (No. 107) a=4.3294(1) Å, c=9.9444(3) Å, V=186.39 Å3, Z=2, and Dx=7.372 g·cm−3. The figure of merit FN for the powder data is F30=184.3(0.0037,44). The structure refinement was performed with 106 reflections and led to Rp=13.2% and Rwp=18.2%. Powder data are given.

The compound DyNiSn has been studied by X-ray powder diffraction. The X-ray diffraction patterns for this compound at room temperature are reported. DyNiSn is orthorhombic with lattice parameters a=7.1018(1) Å, b=7.6599(2) Å, c=4.4461(2) Å, space group Pna21 and 4 formula units of DyNiSn in unit cell. The Smith and Snyder Figure-of-Merit F30 for this powder pattern is 26.7(0.0178,63).

X-ray powder diffraction data for the anticancer drug PtCl2(C2H3O2)2(C6H13N)(NH3) are reported. The crystal structure of PtCl2(C2H3O2)2(C6H13N)(NH3) obtained from a Rietveld refinement are: space group P21/a, a=13.547(2) Å, b=8.260(1) Å, c=14.638(3) Å, β=110.429(2)°, V=1534.96 Å3, Z=4 and Dcalc.=2.068 Mg/m3.

X-ray power diffraction data for CrFe3NiSn5 are reported. Indexing the XRD power pattern and Rietveld refinement shows that the compound crystallizes in the hexagonal crystal system, space group P6mm (No. 183) with lattice parameters a=5.3168(1) Å, c=4.4261(1) Å, z=0.6 and Dcalc=8.011 g cm−3. The crystal structure of CrFe3NiSn5 is of the CoSn structure type with Fe, Cr and Ni disordered in the Co position.

X-ray powder diffraction technique and the Rietveld refinement method have been used successfully for the qualitative and quantitative analyses of Pingguo bauxite from Guangxi, China. Qualitative phase analysis shows that the Pingguo bauxite contains diaspore (AlOOH), hematite (Fe2O3), goethite (FeOOH), anatase (TiO2), and kaolinite (Al2(Si2O5)(OH)4). Quantitative Rietveld refinement shows that the weight concentrations of diaspore, goethite, hematite, anatase, and kaolinite for the Pingguo bauxite are 71.9(4)%, 7.0(8)%, 11.3(7)%, 6.5(6)%, and 3.3(9)%, respectively.

A new ternary compound Gd117Fe52Ge112 has been successfully synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. Gd117Fe52Ge112 crystallizes in a cubic Tb117Fe52Ge112-type structure with space group Fm3m(#225) and lattice parameter a=28.7680(1) Å. Crystal structure of Gd117Fe52Ge112 has been successfully refined using the Rietveld method from X-ray diffraction data. The R-factors for the Rietveld refinement are Rp=0.099 and Rwp=0.128. X-ray powder diffraction data with the figure of merit F30 of 80.4(30) are also reported.

Compound HoCo0.67Ga1.33 was synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. HoCo0.67Ga1.33 was found to have the orthorhombic CeCu2 structure (space group Imma) with a=4.3479(2) Å, b=7.0351(3) Å, c=7.4876(3) Å, Z=4, and Dcalc=8.62 g/cm3. The crystal structure of HoCo0.67Ga1.33 was also refined by the Rietveld method. Ho atoms were found to occupy the 4e positions and mixed Co/Ga atoms to share the 8h positions of the space group Imma (No. 74).

A lattice thermal expansion study on Li2NiMn3O8, a high-voltage cathode material for lithium-ion batteries, was carried out by high-temperature X-ray diffraction from room temperature to 973 K. Rietveld refinement of a high-quality room-temperature diffraction pattern confirmed that Li2NiMn3O8 has the cubic Al2MgO4 spinel type of crystal structure. The analysis of the high-temperature X-ray diffraction patterns showed that the Li2NiMn3O8 structure remained stable and no phase transition was detected over the temperature range from 298 to 973 K. As expected, the value of lattice parameter a or unit cell volume V increases with increasing temperature. The increase in a or V is linear only in the low-temperature region and nonlinear over the entire temperature range from 298 to 973 K. Least-squares analysis of the data for a or V showed the thermal expansion of a or V for Li2NiMn3O8 can best be fitted by a 3-degree polynomial function of temperature. The linear thermal expansion coefficients for a and V averaged over the entire temperature range from 298 to 973 K were also calculated, and αTa=1.10×10−5 K−1; αTV=3.29×10−5 K−1.

A new ternary compound Dy5Co6Sn18 was synthesized and studied. The crystal structure of Dy5Co6Sn18 was determined using the Rietveld refinement method. The compound was found to crystallize in tetragonal space group I41/acd, Tb5Rh6Sn18-type structure, with a=13.5598(3) Å, c=7.1470(5) Å, Z=8, and Dcalc=8.789 g/cm3. Measurements of magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistivity on polycrystalline samples were also performed. The Curie–Weiss law was followed, with θp=−15.7 K and μeff=10.61μB. Dy5Co6Sn18 is a spin-glass with a freezing temperature of 6.5 K.

A new ternary compound Al0.35GdGe2 has been synthesized and studied by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. The ternary compound Al0.35GdGe2 crystallizes in the orthorhombicwith the CeNiSi2 structure type (space group Cmcm, a=4.0874(2) Å, b=16.1499(5) Å,c=3.9372(1) Å, Z=4, and Dcalc=8.007 g/cm3).
