We report fourteen and twenty-eight protocluster candidates at z = 5.7 and 6.6 over 14 and 19 deg2 areas, respectively, selected from 2,230 Lyα emitters (LAEs) photometrically identified with Subaru/Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) deep images. Six out of the 42 protocluster candidates include at least 1 spectroscopically confirmed LAEs at redshifts up to z = 6.574. By the comparisons with the cosmological Lyα radiative transfer (RT) model reproducing LAEs with the reionization effects, we find that more than a half of these protocluster candidates might be progenitors of the present-day clusters with a mass of ≳ 1014M⊙. We also investigate the correlation between LAE overdensity and Lya rest-frame equivalent width (EW), because the cosmological Lyα RT model suggests that a slope of EW-overdensity relation is steepened towards the epoch of cosmic reionization (EoR), due to the existence of the ionized bubbles around galaxy overdensities easing the escape of Lyα emission from the partly neutral intergalactic medium. The available HSC data suggest that the slope of the EW-overdensity correlation does not evolve from the post-reionization epoch z = 5.7 to the EoR z = 6.6 beyond the moderately large statistical errors.

Late-onset psychosis (LOP) has become increasingly prevalent in the clinical setting, especially in the highly aged society, due to the increasing numbers of older people and its disruptive impact on the lives of patients and caregivers. Although previous studies have identified some of the features of LOP (Webster and Grossberg, 1998; Mitford et al., 2010; Tan and Seng, 2012), some of the previous studies did not include patients with dementia and mood disorders. This study addresses the features of LOP in consecutive outpatients to provide information that supports the differential diagnosis.

This paper proposes a repetitive control type optimal gait generation framework by executing learning control and parameter tuning. We propose a learning optimal control method of Hamiltonian systems unifying iterative learning control (ILC) and iterative feedback tuning (IFT). It allows one to simultaneously obtain an optimal feedforward input and tuning parameter for a plant system, which minimizes a given cost function. In the proposed method, a virtual constraint by a potential energy prevents a biped robot from falling. The strength of the constraint is automatically mitigated by the IFT part of the proposed method, according to the progress of trajectory learning by the ILC part.

In order to decrease the use of cobalt element as in LiCoO2,which is mainly used for cathode materials in lithium ion secondary batteries, a newly pseudo-quintenary layered-type Fe-doped Li-Ni-Co-Ti oxides library was created using the combinatorial technology "M-ist Combi system" based on the electrostatic spray deposition method.

The starting materials used were LiNO3, Ni(NO3)2·6H2O, Co(NO3)2·6H2O, Fe(NO3)3·9H2O and TiO2 nano-slurry. These materials were dissolved or dispersed in a mixture of ethanol and butyl carbitol and mixed in a predefined ratio, respectively. Subsequently, each of the mixtures was sprayed and dried on a grounded reaction plate that was heated to 400˚C. The deposited powder was sintered at 700˚C for 5 hours in air atmosphere. Phase identification of the obtained powder library was evaluated by a combinatorial powder x-ray diffractometer. A reaction phase diagram was established from the structure information and chemical composition by ICP-AES measurement.

From all results, single-phase layered-type compounds showed the composition region that included many Co and Ni elements. On the other hand, single phase spinel-type compounds existed in the Ti-rich composition region.

A thin metal film with nano-apertures, called “nano-mesh electrode,” generates near-field lights near the electrode. We investigated carrier excitations in semiconductors by the near-field light. Finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method revealed that when the infrared light irradiates the Au nano-mesh electrode on Ge, near-field lights are generated and absorbed in the surface region of the Ge. In order to measure the photocurrent involved by near-filed lights, we fabricated a Schottky cell and applied a Au nano-mesh electrode on the n-type Ge. The efficiency of the Schottky cell with the Au nano-mesh electrode improved in infrared region compared to plain the Au-film Schottky cell. The agreement between theoretical simulations and experiments indicates that near-field lights enhance the carrier excitation in the semiconductor.

The intrinsic electrophysiological properties of medial geniculate body (MGB) neurons and their responses to noise bursts/pure tones were examined in the pentobarbital anesthetized guinea pig through intracellular recording. Discharge rate was calculated in the absence of acoustic stimuli over varied membrane potentials which were changed by intracellular injection of current or through automatic drifting. The non-acoustically-driven firing rate was 45.8 ± 23.3 Hz (mean ± S.D., n = 8) at membrane potentials of −45 mV, 30.6 ± 19.4 Hz (n = 14) at −50 mV, 18.0 ± 12.9 Hz (n = 14) at −55 mV, and significantly decreased to 5.7 ± 7.4 Hz at −60 mV, and to 0.7 ± 1.5 Hz (n = 10) at −65 mV (ANOVA, P < 0.001). The maximum non-acoustically-driven rate observed in the present study was 160 Hz. The auditory responsiveness of the MGB neurons was examined at membrane potentials over a range of −45 to −75 mV: the higher the membrane potential, the greater the responsiveness and vice versa. A putative non-low-threshold calcium spike (non-LTS) burst was observed in the present study. It showed significantly longer inter-spike intervals (11.6 ± 6.0 ms, P < 0.001, t-test) than those associated with the putative LTS bursts (6.7 ± 2.4 ms, P < 0.001, t-test). The dependence of the temporal structure of the spikes/spike bursts on the stimulus may provide insight into the temporal coding of sound information in the auditory system.

Scanning Nonlinear Dielectric Microscopy (SNDM) is the method for observing ferroelectric polarization distribution, and now, its resolution has become to the sub-nanometer order, which is much higher than other scanning probe microscopy (SPM) methods for the same purpose. Up to now, we have studied high-density ferroelectric data storage using this microscopy. In this study, we have conducted fundamental experiments of nano-sized inverted domain formation in LiTaO3 single, and successfully formed inverted dot array with the density of 1.5 Tbit/inch2.

Hydrogen gas evolution from water dispersing nanoparticles induced by 60Co gamma-ray irradiation was studied. Nanoparticle of TiO2 with average size of 30 nm was examined. It was indicated that the hydrogen yields were affected significantly by pH of the dispersion. Difference in agglomeration could explain the difference in hydrogen yields. Reactions that enhance the hydrogen yields were discussed, and it was concluded that the radiolysis process is dominant in the total enhancement mechanism.

Thin film transistors were fabricated using polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) film which were directly deposited on Corning 7059 glass substrates by plasma chemical vapor deposition method at very low temperature of 450°C. No annealing procedure was carried out in the fabrication process. The dependences of the crystallinity and the electrical properties on the poly-Si film thickness were investigated for three kinds of films deposited under different conditions. These dependences on the film thickness were found to be strongly influenced by the deposition condition, especially the reaction gas pressure. By choosing optimum poly-Si deposition condition carefully, high performance TFTs have been fabricated by this novel method.
