This chapter provides an overview of paternal postnatal depression (PPND). The chapter begins by defining the concept of PPND, situating the disorder in the context of clinical depression or major depressive disorder (MDD). Reference is made to the emergence of this previously considered rare disturbance to men’s health. The potential risk factors for men in terms of PPND are highlighted in the bio-psycho-social domains. The impact of PPND for the family and the couple’s relationship are discussed. Strategies for the prevention and management of PPND are presented, with specific details provided for active and passive approaches that clinicians can engage in when working with men who experience PPND.
