We are currently conducting three kinds of IR surveys of star forming regions (SFRs) in order to seek for very low-mass young stellar populations. First is a deep JHKs-bands (simultaneous) survey with the SIRIUS camera on the IRSF 1.4m or the UH 2.2m telescopes. Second is a very deep JHKs survey with the CISCO IR camera on the Subaru 8.2m telescope. Third is a high resolution companion search around nearby YSOs with the CIAO adaptive optics coronagraph IR camera on the Subaru. In this contribution, we describe our SIRIUS camera and present preliminary results of the ongoing surveys with this new instrument.
We mapped 5 dense cores in the Cepheus molecular cloud in the optically thin C18O (J = 1 — 0) line using the 45-m telescope at Nobeyama and derived density profiles around those cores assuming spherical symmetry. Cloud cores are selected from the 13CO (J = 1 — 0) map obtained through the unbiased survey program with the 4-m telescope at Nagoya university.
We plan to install a new 4m radiotelescope in Australia to complete a sky survey of star-forming regions in the millimeter-wave CO(J=1-0, J-2-1) emission.
IC 1396 is an H II region in Cepheus excited by the massive 06.5 star HD 206267. The distance is about 750 pc. The region exhibits a number of bright-rimmed molecular clouds in which outflows have been detected (Sugitani et al. 1989, Duvert et al. 1990).
We present new 13CO(J = 1-0) measurements of the Orion molecular cloud. The data were taken with the 4-m millimeter-wave telescope of Nagoya University with a beamwidth of 2.7′. The high velocity resolution of 0.1 km s−1 employed has revealed significant details of the 13CO emission toward the H II region.
