We prove that the category of trees Ω is a test category in the sense of Grothendieck. This implies that the category of dendroidal sets is endowed with the structure of a model category Quillen-equivalent to spaces. We show that this model category structure, up to a change of cofibrations, can be obtained as an explicit left Bousfield localisation of the operadic model category structure.

We define a theory of étale motives over a noetherian scheme. This provides a system of categories of complexes of motivic sheaves with integral coefficients which is closed under the six operations of Grothendieck. The rational part of these categories coincides with the triangulated categories of Beilinson motives (and is thus strongly related to algebraic $K$-theory). We extend the rigidity theorem of Suslin and Voevodsky over a general base scheme. This can be reformulated by saying that torsion étale motives essentially coincide with the usual complexes of torsion étale sheaves (at least if we restrict ourselves to torsion prime to the residue characteristics). As a consequence, we obtain the expected results of absolute purity, of finiteness, and of Grothendieck duality for étale motives with integral coefficients, by putting together their counterparts for Beilinson motives and for torsion étale sheaves. Following Thomason’s insights, this also provides a conceptual and convenient construction of the $\ell$-adic realization of motives, as the homotopy $\ell$-completion functor.

In this article we further the study of non-commutative motives, initiated in [12, 43]. Our main result is the construction of a symmetric monoidal structure on the localizing motivator Motlocdg of dg categories. As an application, we obtain : (1) a computation of the spectra of morphisms in Motlocdg in terms of non-connective algebraic K-theory; (2) a fully-faithful embedding of Kontsevich's category KMMk of non-commutative mixed motives into the base category Motlocdg(e) of the localizing motivator; (3) a simple construction of the Chern character maps from non-connective algebraic K-theory to negative and periodic cyclic homology; (4) a precise connection between Toën's secondary K-theory and the Grothendieck ring of KMMk; (5) a description of the Euler characteristic in KMMk in terms of Hochschild homology.

In this article, we further the study of higher K-theory of differential graded (dg) categories via universal invariants, initiated in [G. Tabuada, Higher K-theory via universal invariants, Duke Math. J. 145 (2008), 121–206]. Our main result is the co-representability of non-connective K-theory by the base ring in the ‘universal localizing motivator’. As an application, we obtain for free higher Chern characters, respectively higher trace maps, from non-connective K-theory to cyclic homology, respectively to topological Hochschild homology.

The aim of these notes is to prove that any right exact functor between reasonable Waldhausen categories, that induces an equivalence at the level of homotopy categories, gives rise to a homotopy equivalence between the corresponding K-theory spectra. This generalizes a well known result of Thomason and Trobaugh. The ingredients, for this proof, are a generalization of the Waldhausen approximation theorem, and a simple combinatorial caracterization of derived equivalences. We also study simplicial localization of Waldhausen categories. We prove that a (homotopy) right exact functor induces an equivalence of homotopy categories if and only if it induces anequivalence of simplicial localizations. This allows to make the link with the K-theory of simplicial categories introduced by Toën and Vezzosi.
