The method for computing the $p$-localization of the group $\left[ X,\,\text{U}\left( n \right) \right]$, by Hamanaka in 2004, is revised. As an application, an explicit description of the self-homotopy group of $\text{Sp}\left( 3 \right)$ localized at $p\,\ge \,5$ is given and the homotopy nilpotency of $\text{Sp}\left( 3 \right)$ localized at $p\,\ge \,5$ is determined.

The aim of this paper is to show that the p-local homotopy type of the gauge group of a principal bundle over an even-dimensional sphere is completely determined by the divisibility of the classifying map by p. In particular, for gauge groups of principal SU(n)-bundles over S2d for 2 ≤ d ≤ p − 1 and n ≤ 2p − 1, we give a concrete classification of their p-local homotopy types.

We denote the group of homotopy set [X, U(n)] by the unstable K1-group of X. In this paper, using the unstable K1-group of the multi-suspended CP2, we give a necessary condition for two principal SU(n)-bundles over §4 to have the associated gauge group of the same homotopy type, which is an improvement of the result of Sutherland and, particularly, show the complete classification of homotopy types of SU(3)-gauge groups over S4.

It is shown that the mod $3$ cohomology of a $1$-connected, homotopy associative mod $3$$H$-space that is rationally equivalent to the Lie group $E_6$ is isomorphic to that of $E_6$ as an algebra. Moreover, it is shown that the mod $3$ cohomology of a nilpotent, homotopy-associative mod $3$$H$-space that is rationally equivalent to $E_6$, and whose fundamental group localized at $3$ is non-trivial, is isomorphic to that of the Lie group $\Ad E_6$ as a Hopf algebra over the mod $3$ Steenrod algebra. It is also shown that the mod $3$ cohomology of the universal cover of such an $H$-space is isomorphic to that of $E_6$ as a Hopf algebra over the mod $3$ Steenrod algebra.

Adjoint actions of compact simply connected Lie groups are studied by Kozima and the second author based on the series of studies on the classification of simple Lie groups and their cohomologies. At odd primes, the first author showed that there is a homotopy theoretic approach that will prove the results of Kozima and the second author for any 1-connected finite loop spaces. In this paper, we use the rationalization of the classifying space to compute the adjoint actions and the cohomology of classifying spaces assuming torsion free hypothesis, at the prime 2. And, by using Browder's work on the Kudo–Araki operations Q1 for homotopy commutative Hopf spaces, we show the converse for general 1-connected finite loop spaces, at the prime 2. This can be done because the inclusion j: G > BAG satisfies the homotopy commutativity for any non-homotopy commutative loop space G.

Zirconium fluoride (ZrF4 ) thin films were formed by plasma CVD and evaporation for thin-film optical wave guide. In the case of plasma CVD, ZrF4 compound was actually observed to be synthesized from the vapour of Zr and CF4 gas according to. ESCA measurement, even if the film contained impurities. As for evaporation, transparent and amorphous film was obtained and optical transmission loss was measured by scattering detection method, and the loss was calculated to be 9.5 dB/cm. But when only ZrF4 was deposited, thin film was tarnished to be white because of adsorption of moisture. Therefore, simultaneous evaporation of ZrF4 and BaF2 was performed and the charastaristic was stabilized.

The Hopf algebra structure of H*(ΩG, F2) and the action of the dual Steenrod algebra are completely and explicitly determined when G isone of the connected, simply connected, exceptional, simple Lie groups. The approach is homological, using connected coverings and spectral sequences.
