Impact Factors continue to rise in 2017

2016 Impact Factors

Cambridge University Press is pleased to announce that Impact Factors have risen by an average of 18.4% in the 2016 Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate Analytics, 2017).

Cambridge University Press is pleased to announce that Impact Factors have risen by an average of 18.4% in the 2016 Journal Citation Reports (Clarivate Analytics, 2017).

Acta Numerica, Theory and Practice of Logic Programming, Behavioral and Brain Sciences and World Politics were all placed at the top of categories. The Americas received its first ever Impact Factor and The Spanish Journal of Psychology received its first Science Citation Index Impact Factor, having previously been indexed in the Social Science Citation Index. The number of Cambridge journals now indexed has increased to 237.

Overall, Cambridge University Press now publishes 16 journals in the top 5 of their key categories and 32 journals in the top 10.

Science Citation Index - Journal Highlights

Mathematics

Acta Numerica remains in the number 1 spot in the Mathematics category while Advances in Applied Probability experienced a 46% Impact Factor increase. 

Computer Science

Notable highlights from Computer Science include Theory and Practice of Logic Programming, which remains at number 1 in the Logic category, and Knowledge Engineering Review and Probability in the Engineering and Informational Sciences which  had increases of 45% and 44% respectively.

Astronomy and Astrophysics

Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia received its highest ever Impact Factor of 4.095 which is a 25% increase on the previous year.  The journal is now ranked 16 out of 63 in the Astronomy and Astrophysics category.  The International Journal of Astrobiology received its highest ever Impact Factor of 1.598.

Earth Science

Annals of Glaciology and Journal of Glaciology, the journals of the International Glaciological Society (both recently converted to Gold Open Access), have both seen increases in Impact Factor. 

Materials Science

MRS Communications' Impact Factor increased by 68% to 3.01 in the Materials Science, Multidisciplinary category. 

Life Science and Medicine

Oryx-The International Journal of Conservation and The Canadian Entomologist both received their highest ever Impact Factors. Other journals experiencing significant increases were Bird Conservation International, Journal of Tropical Ecology, British Journal of Nutrition, Nutrition Research Reviews, Seed Science Research, Journal of Developmental Origins of Health and DiseasesJournal of Laryngology & Otology and Primary Health Care Research & Development.

Physics

Journal of Fluid Mechanics has moved into Q1 of the Physics, Fluids and Plasmas category and is now 6th out of 31.  In the same category Journal of Plasma Physics received its highest ever Impact Factor of 1.160.

Engineering

Journal of Navigation's Impact Factor increased by 25% which enabled the journal to hold its position at number 3 in the Engineering, Marine category.


Social Science Citation Index

Politics

World Politics is back at number 1 in the International Relations category.  Including World Politics Cambridge University Press now publishes 6 of the top 8 Political Science journals; International Organization, Political Analysis, American Political Science Review, British Journal of Political Science and Perspectives on Politics

Law

International and Comparative Law Quarterly's Impact Factor increased from 0.554 to 1.333 in Law, which means it has now moved into Q2 of the category.  Young journal Transnational Environmental Law saw its Impact Factor rise for the 3rd year in a row.

Linguistics

Cambridge University Press publishes two journals ranked in the top 10 for Linguistics, Bilingualism: Language and Cognition at number 3 and ReCALL at number 7.  In addition to these two journals we also publish, Annual Review of Applied Linguistics, Studies in Second Language Acquisition, Applied Psycholinguistics and Language Teaching which all appear in the top 20 for Linguistics.

History

Cambridge publishes four journals in the top 20 in the History category, Comparative Studies in Society and History, Journal of Global History, Law and History Review and Journal of British Studies.

Psychology & Psychiatry

Acta Neuropsychiatrica saw an exceptional 155% increase in Impact Factor from 0.76 to 1.939. Epidemiology and Psychiatric Sciences and Journal of Pacific Rim Psychology Impact Factor's increased by 49% and 40% respectively.  Psychological Medicine ranked in the top 10 in Psychology and in the top 20 in Psychiatry.  Leading title in this area Behavioral and Brain Sciences is 1st in Biological Psychology, 2nd in Behavioral Sciences and 5th in Neurosciences.
