page 312 note * In a field a few hundred yards to the east of the Stane Street, an ancient trackway is to be seen, running in a direction that would take it a little to the right of the church, yet pointing as it were to the same object (terminus) as the Roman road. It seems to be a continuation of the old trackway noticed on the Mickleham and Letherhead Downs.
