Nuclear-induced XeBr* fluorescence pumping of the atomic iodine laser

Abstract

Lasing in atomic iodine pumped with incoherent, nuclear-stimulated XeBr* fluorescence is reported. These experiments represent the first demonstration of a nuclear flashlamppumped laser of any type. The fluorescence of XeBr* under nuclear pumping is also discussed.
