A Swimming Crab New to the British Fauna, Liocarcinus Vernalis (Crustacea: Brachyura: Portunidae)

Extract

The occurrence in British coastal waters of the swimming crab Liocarcinus vernalis is confirmed for the first time. Features are given to enable this species to be distinguished from the closely related L. holsatus and L. marmoreus. The zoogeographical distribution and bionomics of L. vernalis are briefly discussed.
