The editors of the Journal of Global History are deeply saddened by the death of Jerry Bentley, the founding editor of the Journal of World History. He was a guiding force in world and global history over many decades. His generosity of spirit is well known in the history community, and was manifest after the Journal of Global History had begun publication. He regarded our new journal as a welcome sign of the maturing of a field that he had helped create, and went out of his way on a number of occasions to assist us.
