Study of gas production capacity by three sources of inocula

Summary

The capacity for gas production by three sources of inocula was evaluated at the University of the Azores between 1993 and 1994. The sources were: liquor from the rumen of sheep and slaughtered cattle and a suspension of sheep faeces. The highest gas production was observed in the liquor obtained from sheep rumen. Lower production(p ≤ 0·05) was observed in the rumen liquor obtained from slaughtered cattle, and the lowest results (p ≤ 0·05) were obtained with the suspension of faeces from sheep.
