EVALUATION OF NON-INSECTICIDAL METHODS TO REDUCE DAMAGE TO CHRYSANTHEMUMS BY THE LEAFMINER LIRIOMYZA TRIFOLII (DIPTERA: AGROMYZIDAE)1

Abstract

Three biological control methods were evaluated for the reduction of damage to chrysanthemums by the leafminer Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess). Yellow sticky boards trapped adults and reduced the damage by 50%, Afugan 30 EC effectively controlled the damage to chrysanthemums, and interplanting with field beans as a trap crop showed potential for reducing damage. A specific integrated pest management program can not be recommended as yet; more information is needed.

Résumé

Trois méthodes de lutte biologiques ont été évaluées en vue de réduire les ravages commis aux percentums par la mineuse Liriomyza trifolii (Burgess). Ainsi, des planchettes jaunes collantes ont réduit les dégâts de 50 pour cent, Afugan 30 EC réduit les ravages de façon efficace et immédiate et la plantation intercalaire de fèverole présente des possibilités sur le plan de la lutte biologique. Pour l'instant toutefois, il est impossible de recommander un programme de lutte intégrée, car on manque encore de données.
