Aphidini (Hemiptera: Aphididae) living on Senecio (Asteraceae), with descriptions of a new genus and three new species

Abstract

The species of Aphidini living on Senecio L. in South America are reviewed. Pehuenchaphisgen. nov. is described; it is an Aphidina genus characterized mainly by the siphunculi on abdominal segment VI when present and by its radicicolous way of life. The type species of the genus Pehuenchaphis agilissimasp. nov. is described and the new combination Pehuenchaphis americana for Sene ciobium americana Mier Durante and Ortego is established. Aphis senecionicoides E.E. Blanchard is redescribed and its neotype is established. Aphis papillosasp. nov. with very large marginal papillae and Aphis malalhuinasp. nov. with short siphunculi are described and differentiated from the previously known Aphis intrusa Ortego and A. senecionicoides. A key for the apterous viviparous females of these seven species and Andinaphis paradoxa Mier Durante et al. is given.

Résumé

On trouvera ici la révision des espèces sud-américaines d'Aphidini vivant sur Senecio L. Nous décrivons le nouveau genre Pehuenchaphisgen. nov., qui se classe parmi les Aphidina et se caractérise surtout par la position des cornicules sur le segment abdominal VI lorsqu'elles sont présentes et par son mode de vie particulier radicicole. Nous faisons la description de l'espèce type Pehuenchaphis agilissimasp. nov. et reclassifions Seneciobium americanum Mier Durante et Ortego qui devient Pehuenchaphis americana, nouvelle combinaison. Nous présentons une nouvelle description d'Aphis senecionicoides E.E. Blanchard, espèce pour laquelle nous avons désigné son néotype. Les nouvelles espèces, Aphis papillosasp. nov., caractérisée par de très grandes papilles marginales, et Aphis malalhuinasp. nov. aux cornicules très courtes sont décrites et distinguées des espèces déjà connues Aphis intrusa Ortego et A. senecionicoides. Une clef permet de reconnaître les femelles vivipares aptères de ces sept espèces et celles d'Andinaphis paradoxa Mier Durante et al.
