The Effects of Stone and Technology on Fluted-Point Morphometry

Abstract

Previous morphometric studies have identified variation in fluted-point thickness data but have seldom considered its cultural or technological sources. New data from western and eastern North America suggest that variation in fluted-point thickness results from variability in lithic raw-material selectivity and bifacial-flaking techniques.

Previos estudios morfométricos han identificado una variación en los datos sobre el grosor de las puntas acanaladas, pero éstos raramente han considerado sus orígenes culturales o tecnológicos. Nuevos datos del oeste y este de Norte América sugieren que la variación en el grosor de las puntas acanaladas es el resultado de la variabilidad en la selectividad de materia prima y en las técnicas de tallado bifacial.
