Summary of Common Misunderstandings

To study development is to study multicellularity. This is a traditional but unjustified restriction of developmental biology. Structural (not simply metabolic) changes are also observed in single-celled organisms (very conspicuous, for example, in trypanosomes) and in the production of the single-cell phase (such as eggs and sperm cells) in the biological cycle.
