Summary
Umiej być przyjacielem, znajdziesz przyjaciela.
(Ignacy Krasicki)They were neither particularly handsome (well, maybe except for one)
Nor rich (well, maybe except for one)
Nor exceptionally smart (hmm…)
Nor particularly breathtaking,
Some of them I never spoke to,
With some of them I never got along;
Some of them I did not appreciate;
Some of them drove me crazy;
Some of them would waste my time;
Some of them I just could not believe;
They were just
Casual people
The students of Utrecht.
Yet some of them I admired;
Some of them inspired me;
Some of them made me fall on my knees
When they spoke Portuguese
Some of them killed me
When they made me play tennis
Or
Canoe
For three hours
With some others I could talk for hours
On the balcony
Or
On the train
They made me laugh
On the bicycle
Or in The Hague
They made me speak languages
They made me share
They made me trust them
They made me feel young
They made me who I am
They got to know me so well
I could be myself
In Utrecht.
Some of them are so sweet
When they make me smile on Facebook
They make me remember the good times
When I am feeling tired
Or in the middle of the night
And I see a familiar opening
We make plans
With the students of Utrecht.
They made me prefer Utrecht to the seaside
They made me feel at home
They made me feel happy
They became
My dear friends,
Dear friends from Utrecht.
