Procedure against the murderers of John Imperial, a Genoese ambassador, including parliamentary declaration of the crime as treason, 1379: P.R.O., K.B. 27/476 Rex mm. 31, 31d and supplementary.

Dominus rex mandavit justiciariis suis hie breve suum clausum in hec verba:

Ricardus Dei gratia rex Anglie et Francie et dominus Hibernie, dilectis et fidelibus suis Johanni de Cavendissh et sociis suis justiciariis ad placita coram nobis tenenda assignatis, salutem. Indictamentum factum coram vicecomitibus nostris Londoniae et coronatore eiusdem civitatis de morte Johannis Imperial de Jannu super visu corporis eiusdem Johannis unde Johannes Kyrkeby, mercer, et Johannes Algore, grocer, indictati sunt coram nobis in cancellariam nostram de mandato notsro missum vobis mittimus sub pede sigilli nostri mandantes quod eo viso ulterius inde fieri facias quod de iure et secundum leges et consuetudines regni nostri Anglie fuit faciendum. Teste me ipso apud Westmonasterium secundo die martii anno regno nostro tertio.

Breve vicecomitibus Londoniae et coronatori eiusdem civitatis de mittendo indictamentum predictum in cancellaria predicta directum sequitur in hec verba:

… Quia quibusdam certis de causis coram nobis et consilio nostro in presenti parliamento nostro propositis certiorari volumus super indictamento facto coram vobis de morte Johannis Imperial super visu corporis eiusdem iam unde Johannes Kyrkeby serviens Johannis More, et Johannes Algor, serviens Ricardi de Preston indictati sunt ut dicitur, vobis precipimus quod indictamentum predictum cum omnibus illud tangentibus nobis in cancellariam nostram sub sigillis vestris distincte et aperte ac salve et secure sine dilatione aliqua mittatis. Et hoc breve ut nos inde plenius certiorari ulterius inde fieri faciamus quod de iure et secundum leges et consuetudines regni nostri Anglie fuerit faciendum.
