Zeronian, using a scanning electron microscope-(SEM), found that when nylon 66 fabric was exposed simultaneously to light from a xenon arc lamp, and to air, and periodically sprayed with water, pits appeared on the surface of the semidull fibers. The size and number of the pits increased with time of exposure.
In the present study, we examined the influence of TiO2 on the surface structure of 70-34-Z DuPont nylon 66 filament yarn exposed to light. Bright, semidull, and dull forms were used at respective TiO2 concentrations of 0.02, 0.30, and 2.0%. The yarns were exposed simultaneously to light and air in a Weather-Ometer, and were sprayed with water for 18 min every 2 hr.
