This paper presents an efficient water cycle algorithm based on the processes of water cycle with movement of streams and rivers in to the sea. This optimization algorithm is applied to obtain the optimal feasible path with minimum travel duration during motion planning of both single and multiple humanoid robots in both static and dynamic cluttered environments. This technique discards the rainfall process considering falling water droplets forming streams during raining and the process of flowing. The flowing process searches the solution space and finds the more accurate solution and represents the local search. Motion planning of humanoids is carried out in V-REP software. The performance of proposed algorithm is tested in experimental scenario under laboratory conditions and shows the developed algorithm performs well in terms of obtaining optimal path length and minimum time span of travel. Here, navigational analysis has been performed on both single as well as multiple humanoid robots. Statistical analysis of results obtained from both simulation and experimental environments is carried out for both single and multiple humanoids, along with the comparison with another existing optimization technique that indicate the strength and effectiveness of the proposed water cycle algorithm.

Despite enormous strides in our field with respect to patient care, there has been surprisingly limited dialogue on how to train and educate the next generation of congenital cardiologists. This paper reviews the current status of training and evolving developments in medical education pertinent to congenital cardiology. The adoption of competency-based medical education has been lauded as a robust framework for contemporary medical education over the last two decades. However, inconsistencies in frameworks across different jurisdictions remain, and bridging gaps between competency frameworks and clinical practice has proved challenging. Entrustable professional activities have been proposed as a solution, but integration of such activities into busy clinical cardiology practices will present its own challenges. Consequently, this pivot towards a more structured approach to medical education necessitates the widespread availability of appropriately trained medical educationalists, a development that will better inform curriculum development, instructional design, and assessment. Differentiation between superficial and deep learning, the vital role of rich formative feedback and coaching, should guide our trainees to become self-regulated learners, capable of critical reasoning yet retaining an awareness of uncertainty and ambiguity. Furthermore, disruptive innovations such as “technology enhanced learning” may be leveraged to improve education, especially for trainees from low- and middle-income countries. Each of these initiatives will require resources, widespread advocacy and raised awareness, and publication of supporting data, and so it is especially gratifying that Cardiology in the Young has fostered a progressive approach, agreeing to publish one or two articles in each journal issue in this domain.

In the current research, kinematic analysis of a humanoid NAO is attempted. Here, both Denavit–Hartenberg (DH) parameter approach and multibody formulation approach have been analyzed. In the DH parameter approach, the NAO robot is solved by separating it into five individual kinematic chains. In the multibody formulation approach, NAO is divided into 15 segments, and each segment is analyzed. Kinematic analysis holds a significant importance; as from the data obtained in the kinematic analysis, the robots can be designed for real-time path planning and navigation. The current analysis is a novel approach to analyze the NAO based on its kinematic constraints.

In this paper, a novel dynamic navigational planning strategy is proposed for single as well as multiple humanoids in intricate environments on a glowworm-based optimization method. The sensory information regarding the obstacle distances and target information are supplied as inputs to the navigational model. The essential turning angle is generated as the output of the controller to avoid obstacles present in the environment and reach the target location with ease. The proposed model is certified in a V-REP simulation software, and the simulation results are authenticated in a real-time setup arranged under testing conditions.

The catastrophic declines of three species of ‘Critically Endangered’ Gyps vultures in South Asia were caused by unintentional poisoning by the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) diclofenac. Despite a ban on its veterinary use in 2006 (India, Nepal, Pakistan) and 2010 (Bangladesh), residues of diclofenac have continued to be found in cattle carcasses and in dead wild vultures. Another NSAID, meloxicam, has been shown to be safe to vultures. From 2012 to 2018, we undertook covert surveys of pharmacies in India, Nepal and Bangladesh to investigate the availability and prevalence of NSAIDs for the treatment of livestock. The purpose of the study was to establish whether diclofenac continued to be sold for veterinary use, whether the availability of meloxicam had increased and to determine which other veterinary NSAIDs were available. The availability of diclofenac declined in all three countries, virtually disappearing from pharmacies in Nepal and Bangladesh, highlighting the advances made in these two countries to reduce this threat to vultures. In India, diclofenac still accounted for 10–46% of all NSAIDs offered for sale for livestock treatment in 2017, suggesting weak enforcement of existing regulations and a continued high risk to vultures. Availability of meloxicam increased in all countries and was the most common veterinary NSAID in Nepal (89.9% in 2017). Although the most widely available NSAID in India in 2017, meloxicam accounted for only 32% of products offered for sale. In Bangladesh, meloxicam was less commonly available than the vulture-toxic NSAID ketoprofen (28% and 66%, respectively, in 2018), despite the partial government ban on ketoprofen in 2016. Eleven different NSAIDs were recorded, several of which are known or suspected to be toxic to vultures. Conservation priorities should include awareness raising, stricter implementation of current bans, bans on other vulture-toxic veterinary NSAIDs, especially aceclofenac and nimesulide, and safety-testing of other NSAIDs on Gyps vultures to identify safe and toxic drugs.

Poor growth with underweight for age, decreased length/height for age, and underweight-for-height are all relatively common in children with CHD. The underlying causes of this failure to thrive may be multifactorial, including innate growth potential, severity of cardiac disease, increased energy requirements, decreased nutritional intake, malabsorption, and poor utilisation of absorbed nutrition. These factors are particularly common and severe in low- and middle-income countries.

Although nutrition should be carefully assessed in all patients, failure of growth is not a contraindication to surgical repair, and patients should receive surgical repair where indicated as soon as possible.

Close attention should be paid to nutritional support – primarily enteral feeding, with particular use of breast milk in infancy – in the perioperative period and in the paediatric ICU. This nutritional support requires specific attention and allocation of resources, including appropriately skilled personnel.

Thereafter, it is essential to monitor growth and development and to identify causes for failure to catch-up or grow appropriately.

This manuscript provides a global perspective on physician and nursing education and training in paediatric cardiac critical care, including available resources and delivery of care models with representatives from several regions of the world including Africa, Israel, Asia, Australasia, Europe, South America, and the United States of America.

Pituitary carcinomas have been reported to metastasize systemically and, less commonly, along the craniospinal axis. Metastatic lesions have been reported in the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, spinal cord, leptomeninges, cervical lymph nodes, liver, ovaries, and bone. The authors are unaware of any other examples of subependymal metastases of a pituitary carcinoma. We report such a case.

Pituitary carcinoma is rare, accounting for roughly 0.2%1,3-5 of all pituitary tumors, with approximately 140 cases reported in the literature. These tumors are associated with a very high mortality, with 66% of patients dying within the first year after diagnosis. Pituitary carcinomas are differentiated from invasive pituitary adenomas by the presence of non-contiguous craniospinal tumor deposits and/or distant systemic metastases. The majority (88%) of these carcinomas prove to be hormone secreting, with prolactin secreting tumors being the most common. Invasive carcinomas evolve from hormone secreting pituitary adenomas after a latency period. Pituitary carcinomas have a predilection for systemic spread. The rate of systemic metastasis approaches 71% for prolactin producing tumors and 57% for ACTH producing tumors. Thirteen percent of tumors demonstrate both systemic and craniospinal patterns of metastatic spread.

In this paper, we investigate the energetics of constant height level bounding gaits in quadruped robots with asymmetric body-mass distribution along the longitudinal axis. Analytical expressions for mechanical specific resistance for two cases of bounding are derived: bounding with equal front and rear leg step lengths, and bounding with unequal front and rear leg step lengths. Specific resistance is found to be independent of mass distribution in the first case, and dependent in the second case. The quadruped robot has average nonzero acceleration/deceleration due to unsymmetric distribution of mass when front and rear leg step lengths are equal. Results show that lower body lengths, lower step lengths, and higher heights from the ground level give lower specific resistance. The effect of body-mass asymmetry is to accelerate in the first case, and to reduce specific resistance in the second case. This result provides some insight into why certain quadrupedal animals in nature evolved to have body-mass asymmetry.

Rapid, precise and timely identification of invasive pest insects such as aphids is important and a challenge worldwide due to their complex life cycles, parthenogenetic reproduction, sex and colour morphs. In this respect, DNA barcoding employing a 658 bp fragment of 5′ region of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (CO-I) gene is an effective tool in addressing the above. In the present study, we employed CO-I for discriminating 142 individuals representing 32 species of aphids from India. Sequence analyses revealed that the intraspecific and interspecific distances ranged from zero to 3.8% and 2.31 to 18.9%, respectively. In addition, the study also showed for the first time the prevalence of three cryptic species, namely Brevicoryne brassicae (Linnaeus), Hyperomyzus carduellinus (Theobald) and Brachycaudus helichrysi (Kaltenbach) from India. Our work has clearly demonstrated that DNA barcoding is an efficient and accurate method for identification of aphid species (including cryptic species), an approach that potentially could play an important role in formulating viable pest management strategies, more especially biocontrol.

Ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi) is a sequence-specific gene silencing mechanism induced by double-stranded RNA (dsRNA). Recently, RNAi has gained popularity as a reverse genetics tool owing to its tremendous potential in insect pest management, which includes Helicoverpa armigera. However, its efficiency is mainly governed by dsRNA concentration, frequency of application, target gene, etc. Therefore, to obtain a robust RNAi response in H. armigera, we evaluated various concentrations of dsRNA and its frequency of applications delivered through diet in silencing a midgut gene, chymotrypsin and a non-midgut gene, juvenile hormone acid methyl transferase (jhamt) of H. armigera. The extent of target gene silencing was determined by employing reverse transcription quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Our study revealed four significant findings: (i) single application of dsRNA elicited a delayed and transient silencing, while multiple applications resulted in early and persistent silencing of the above genes; (ii) silencing of the non-midgut gene (jhamt) through diet delivered dsRNA revealed prevalence of systemic silencing probably due to communication of silencing signals in this pest; (iii) the extent of silencing of chymotrypsin was positively correlated with dsRNA concentration and was negatively correlated with jhamt; (iv) interestingly, over-expression (15–18 folds) of an upstream gene, farnesyl diphosphate synthase (fpps), in juvenile hormone (JH) biosynthetic pathway at higher concentrations of jhamt dsRNA was the plausible reason for lesser silencing of jhamt. This study provides an insight into RNAi response of target genes, which is essential for RNAi design and implementation as a pest management strategy.

The relationship of leaf weight ratio (LWR), leaf area ratio (LAR), stomatal frequency and dry matter (DM) production with yield and with photosynthetic efficiency, as reflected by 14CO2 fixation rate, was studied in fox-tail millet (Setaria italica) for three consecutive years. Several genotypes were identified which combined small leaf area and/or low stomatal numbers per plant with productivity under rain-fed conditions equal to that of genotypes with large stomatal numbers. 14CO2 studies in these genotypes showed that the rate of carbon fixation by the leaves was greater, at any canopy position, than in the corresponding large LA/large DM types. Genotypes with consistently small stomatal numbers per plant, associated with good dry matter accumulation and productivity, may also show small transpirational water loss under rain-fed or drought conditions. It is concluded that such genotypes are desirable for better productivity under these conditions.

A quick and developmental-stage non-limiting method of the identification of vectors of tospoviruses, such as Thrips tabaci and T. palmi, is important in the study of vector transmission, insecticide resistance, biological control, etc. Morphological identification of these thrips vectors is often a stumbling block in the absence of a specialist and limited by polymorphism, sex, stage of development, etc. Molecular identification, on the other hand, is not hampered by the above factors and can easily be followed by a non-specialist with a little training. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase I (mtCOI) exhibits reliable inter-species variations as compared to the other markers. In this communication, we present the differences in the mtCOI partial sequence of morphologically identified specimens of T. tabaci and T. palmi collected from onion and watermelon, respectively. Species-specific markers, identified in this study, could successfully determine T. tabaci and T. palmi, which corroborated the morphological identification. Phylogenetic analyses showed that both T. tabaci and T. palmi formed different clades as compared to the other NCBI accessions. The implication of these variations in vector efficiency has to be investigated further. The result of this investigation is useful in the quick identification of T. tabaci and T. palmi, a critical factor in understanding the epidemiology of the tospoviruses, their management and also in quarantine.
