Morgellons disease is a delusional disorder that leads to the belief that one has parasites or foreign material moving in, or coming out of, the skin. The name was coined in 2002 by Mary Leitao; a mother who rejected the medical diagnosis of her son's delusional parasitosis. She revived it from a letter written by a physician in the mid-1600s.
In this case report, we aim to describe the clinical characteristics and manifestation of morgellon disease in 26 years man.
Results and discussion
Bulgarian athlete of 26 years stopped to be actively involved with the sport after a severe contusion to the right knee during the race. Had a joint surgery in the Netherlands and of course when that will not be able to compete more professional sports began to use cannabinoids daily. After three months patient went to dermatologist because of skin rashes and intense itching, crawling sensation on and under the skin. The patient reported that pull out threads from his skin. Dermatologist Initiated treatment with antibiotic creams and corticosteroids. The symptoms persist and the patient has consulted a psychiatrist regarding appeared complaints of fatigue, poor concentration and increased anxiety. Psychiatrist based on clinical and medical history was diagnosed morgellon disease. We started treatment with risperidone in increasing doses up to 2 mg/day. After a month the patient has a significant reduction of symptoms.
Morgellons disease is a little-known disorder that is often associated with non-specific skin, nerve, and psychiatric symptoms.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of specific socio-demographic factors among sex crime offenders.
The subjects of study are 66 individuals in total, testified by expert psychiatrist and subsequently charged by law as of December 2010, up until today.

The highest percentage of the participants are from the age groups between 15–24 and 45–54 years old. Both age groups consist of 18 people (27%). The two groups with the lowest percentage of sex offenders are the ones between 25–34 –6 (9%) and above 64–6 (9%). The biggest share have secondary education–26 (40%), followed by those with elementary education–24 (36%). The smallest percentage are those with higher education – 2 (3%). There is no statistically significant correlation between the research sample and their residence–34 (51%) live in a city and 32 (49%) – In a village. There is also not a significant difference in their ethnical origins. The biggest percentage of sex offenders have been raised by both parents – 54 (82%).
Sex offenders represent an exceptionally heterogeneous group, our study did not find significant correlation of socio-demographic factors and the profile of the rapist.

In the present paper, the low-velocity impact of an elastic rod with a flat end upon a viscoelastic Timoshenko type beam has been considered. Viscoelastic properties of the beam out of the contact zone are described by the standard linear solid model with integer derivatives, while inside this zone they are governed by the fractional derivative standard linear solid model. The contact force for a concrete target has been defined experimentally at the concrete age of 7, 14, 28, 56, and 91 days. It has been found that an average maximum of the contact force increases with concrete age, whereas the contact duration decreases. Moreover, the most remarkable changes of both, contact force and contact time, occur at the concrete age earlier than 14 days, after that the rate of changes slows down. Experimental results have a good coincidence with theoretical expectations.
In this paper we study the following question: given a semigroup
of partial isometries acting on a complex separable Hilbert space, when does the selfadjoint semigroup
again consist of partial isometries? It has been shown by Bernik, Marcoux, Popov and Radjavi that the answer is positive if the von Neumann algebra generated by the initial and final projections corresponding to the members of
is abelian and has finite multiplicity. In this paper we study the remaining case of when this von Neumann algebra has infinite multiplicity and show that, in a sense, the answer in this case is generically negative.
Fullerite derivatives synthesized with a catalytic polymerization reaction at a relatively low-pressure range of 0.5–4 GPa show unique mechanical properties: elastic recovery is 98% and hardness possibly approaches 100 GPa. Structure of the samples is also unique: one composes from fragments of C60 molecules linked by the covalent bonds. To obtain the homogeneous crack-free samples, we synthesized B4C–fullerite derivatives composite which show a 550 MPa flexural stress, a 2250 MPa compressive strength, and a 28 GPa hardness and have density of 2.2 g/cm3.
The evolution of non-equilibrium plasma channel created in xenon by powerful KrF-femtosecond laser pulse is studied. It is demonstrated that such a plasma channel can be used as a waveguide for both transportation and amplification of the microwave radiation. The specific features of such a plasma waveguide are studied on the basis of the self-consistent solution of the kinetic Boltzmann equation for the electron energy distribution function in different spatial points of the gas media and the wave equation in slow-varying amplitude approximation for the microwave radiation guided and amplified in the channel.
An approach for high-precision 2D linear polarimetry is briefly described. The key components are reducing random errors, reducing systematic errors, and obtaining 2D distributions of the linear polarization degree, p, and polarization angle, χ (deviation of the polarization plane from the direction tangential to the solar limb).
From 13-years of the spectral optical monitoring of a well-known broad-line radio galaxy 3C 390.3 we concluded that the geometry of the broad emission-line region is complex, while still the main part of the emission is coming from the accretion disk. Here we present part of the analysis of the broad Hα and Hβ emission lines, which are showing highly variable double-peaked profiles during the monitoring period (1995-2007), with the aim to probe the accretion disk properties. The disk-like geometry plays a dominant role, but the variability of Hα and Hβ line profiles and intensities shows a presence of an additional emission-line region, that has a different nature for different periods, e.g. in one period the observed variation can be well modeled if one assumes changes in position and size of the emitting disk along the accretion disk.
In this paper, we discuss the low-frequency range of the Raman spectrum of individual suspended index-identified single-walled (SWCNTs) and double-walled carbon nanotubes (DWCNTs). In SWCNTs, the role of environment on the radial breathing mode (RBM) frequency is discussed. We show that the interaction between the surrounding air and the nanotube does not induce a RBM upshift. In several DWCNTs, we evidence that the low-frequency modes cannot be connected to the RBM of each related layer. We discuss this result in terms of mechanical coupling between the layers which results in collective radial breathing-like modes. The mechanical coupling qualitatively explains the observation of Raman lines of radial breathing-like modes, whenever only one of the layers is in resonance with the incident laser energy.
Fine radioactive particulate dispersal in outdoor areas presents significant economic, social, environmental and public health concerns. The interactions of these radioactive particles with urban surfaces need to be well understood to develop optimized decontamination strategies. The major environmental factors influencing these interactions are relative air humidity, temperature and rain. The objective of this work is to investigate the fate and transport of water soluble cesium deposited on conventional urban building materials, especially concrete, brick, asphalt, limestone, and granite, under various environmental conditions (relative humidity (RH), and atmospheric precipitation). The data on the kinetics of 137Cs desorption from building materials by the solution containing 100 mM of Ca2+ and 0.5 mM of K+ have shown that the shape of the 137Cs desorption curves is similar for all building materials. There is a rapid initial decrease in the activity of the sorbed 137Cs. The desorption rate first decreases quickly during 7–10 days and practically does not change later. The remaining 137Cs in building materials that is not desorbed by the solution is 30-40% of the initially sorbed amount. For the building materials of interest, radiocaesium interception potentials (RIP). The RIP(K) value has been shown to range from 20 to 300 mM/kg and increase in the order: limestone > brick > concrete > granite > asphalt. The fine fraction of building materials (<0.125 mm) sorbs 137Cs better than the coarse fraction (0.0125–0.25 mm). Based on RIP(K) value and measured concentration of cations the distribution coefficients Kd(137Cs) were determined. The study of the mechanisms of radiocesium binding by different components of building materials, based on sequential extraction technique, shows that the highest ability to bind 137Cs is characteristic of asphalt which retains 40.9±1.0 % of 137Cs after all extractions. By the ability to bind 137Cs with the residual fraction, the studied materials form the following sequence: concrete > limestone > granite > brick. Method to study radionuclides distribution in depth of building materials using layer-by-layer grinding has been developed.
During a recent large tularemia outbreak in Bulgaria we found several cases that were remote from the main focus. One case had an unusual mode of transmission. A hunter acquired tularemia through a nail scratch from a buzzard (Buteo buteo) and consequently developed a typical ulceroglandular form of the disease. The diagnosis was confirmed by serological methods and successful cultivation. Comparative strain typing was performed by high-resolution multi-locus variable-number tandem repeat analysis (MLVA). The isolated strain was identical to one of the outbreak genotypes. We consider that this case represents a bird-to-human transmission of F. tularensis.
In this work, we present the spectra of NGC 4151 observed over 11 years (from 1996 to 2006) using the SAO 6-m and 1-m telescopes (Russia), the GHAO 2.1-m telescope (Cananea, México), and the OAN-SPM 2.1-m telescope (San-Pedro, México). The procedure of spectra calibration is given by Shapovalova et al. (2008). Our analysis is focused on high-quality (S/N > 50) spectra of the Hα and Hβ emission lines.
We apply the Boltzmann-Plot (BP) method to the Balmer lines to estimate the physical propertiesin the Broad Line Region of Active Galactic Nuclei. We study the Balmer lines of a sample of 90 AGN from Sloan Digital Sky Survey database, as well as the time variability of the BP parameter A of NGC 5548.
Photoluminescence and electrical measurements
were carried out for studying the influence of rare-earth
elements (Yb) concentration in the Ga melt on the
electronic and structural properties of LPE GaAs epilayers.
It was shown that at low concentration the main role of Yb
is the gettering of residual impurities in the melt. At the
same time, Yb addition in the melt changes the
heterogeneous equilibrium by changing the stoichiometry
of epilayers (increase of
). But at further increase of Yb
concentration in the melt Yb begins to enter in the Ga-sublattice
and cluster with deviation from the
stoichiometry. An optimum concentration of Yb exists at
which high-purity and stoichiometric epilayers for a device
application can be obtained.
Local elastic properties and microstructural features of low-density polyethylene-polypropylene (LDPE-PP) blends have been studied by microacoustical technique, differential scanning calorimetry and infrared spectroscopy. Focused ultrasonic beam of acoustic microscope has been employed to measure elastic wave velocities, bulk and shear elastic moduli and Poisson ratio. The experiments show that the mechanical properties of immiscible LDPE-PP blends are non-additivily changeable in relation to ones of primary gomopolymers. Maximum of the moduli values is achieved with small addition of LDPE to PP. Additional drawing of bipolymer shows essential increasing of orientation ability for PP chains in 5/95 – 10/90 % LDPE-PP compositions. DSC curves show no significant deviations in melting temperature and crystallinity degree for different compositions of PP and LDPE phases. Internal microstructure has been imaged for the blends by acoustic microscopy technique. It allows revealing dispersivity of components over the blend body.
A review of the epidemiology of clinical rubella in the Perm region of the Russian Federation
from 1979–97 showed that the incidence was about 220 cases per 100000 population.
Congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) accounted for 15% of birth defects and for about 3·5
cases of CRS per 1000 live births per year. Surveys of the seroepidemiology of rubella infection
revealed that the susceptibility rate among pregnant women (i.e. rubella virus antibody
haemagglutination-inhibition (HAI) assay titres < 10) was 16·5%. As serum rubella antibody
HAI titres [ges ] 10 both prevented infection in pregnant women and protected their foetuses,
serological testing has been introduced into the routine antenatal services. Pre-existing rubella
antibodies were found not to interfere with the immune response to vaccination, so selective
immunization was provided to girls approaching puberty and to women of childbearing age. A
programme of epidemiological surveillance is being developed to define tactics for the widescale
introduction of rubella vaccination.
H+ ion implanted SOI structures formed by hydrogen ion slicing have been investigated by Raman spectroscopy and photoluminescence (PL). After implantation the wafers have been heat-treated by either furnace annealing (FA) or rapid thermal annealing (RTA). It has been found that implantation of 3 × 1017 H+/cm2 results in the formation of the amorphous Si layer (a-Si) inside silicon film on insulator. Structural transformations in a-Si depended on the annealing conditions. FA led to crystallization of a-Si and to the formation of monocrystalline silicon films. RTA results in the formation of the layers containing a high density of Si nanocrystals. A comparison of the Raman measurements with the PL data allows to conclude that PL bands obtained near 420 and 500 nm are not associated with the radiative recombination in Si nanocrystals.
