In the stream of flurry of publications grappling different paradigms to tackle underlying mechanisms of moral decision-making, EVENT RELATED POTENtial (ERP) studies is beginning to explore psychophysiological components in the moral domain, focused on observing various moral behaviors in the experimental situations. This research was aimed at providing a new method of study investigating neural correlates of subjective moral decision-making in which we hypothesize that the social congruent or in-congruent context, could emerge a salience brain response in intuitive or cognitive control related responses toward moral dilemmas. Electrophysiological data were recorded from the scalp a 32-channel recording system complying with the international 10–20 system. The average N2 (175–300 ms) and LPP (300–600 ms) amplitude and latency were measured after the onset of putative counterpart response. Repeated measure ANOVA revealed that there was a difference between congruent versus in-congruent social response to high conflict scenarios in LPP amplitude in right lateral and frontal electrodes F(4, 174) = 5.812, P < 0.001 (Fig. 1). The findings also, suggest that N2 latency in less conflict moral scenarios may appear earlier compared with high conflict moral scenarios during in congruent social response in frontal electrodes especially left area F(3, 174) = 3.013, P < 0.05 (Fig. 2, figures are not available for this abstract). In conclusion, these results were either extend previous neurophysiological findings on classic moral scenarios and consistent with the notion that right hemisphere would be much more representative of cognitive control process during high conflict moral decision-making, while left frontal electrodes engaged in early intuitive process.

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) consist of highly preserved stress proteins that are expressed in response to stress. Two studies were carried out to investigate whether HSP genes in hair follicles from beef calves can be suggested as indicators of heat stress (HS). In study 1, hair follicles were harvested from three male Hanwoo calves (aged 172.2 ± 7.20 days) on six dates over the period of 10 April to 9 August 2017. These days provided varying temperature–humidity indices (THIs). In study 2, 16 Hanwoo male calves (aged 169.6 ± 4.60 days, with a BW of 136.9 ± 6.23 kg) were maintained (4 calves per experiment) in environmentally controlled chambers. A completely randomized design with a 2 × 4 factorial arrangement involving two periods (thermoneutral: TN; HS) and four THI treatment groups (threshold: THI = 68 to 70; mild: THI = 74 to 76; moderate THI = 81 to 83; severe: THI = 88 to 90). The calves in the different group were subjected to ambient temperature (22°C) for 7 days (TN) and subsequently to the temperature and humidity corresponding to the target THI level for 21 days (HS). Every three days (at 1400 h) during both the TN and HS periods, the heart rate (HR) and rectal temperature (RT) of each individual were measured, and hair follicles were subsequently collected from the tails of each individual. In study 1, the high variation (P < 0.0001) in THI indicated that the external environment influenced the HS to different extents. The expression levels of the HSP70 and HSP90 genes at the high-THI level were higher (P = 0.0120, P = 0.0002) than those at the low-THI level. In study 2, no differences in the THI (P = 0.2638), HR (P = 0.2181) or RT (P = 0.3846) were found among the groups during the TN period, whereas differences in these indices (P < 0.0001, P < 0.0001 and P < 0.0001, respectively) were observed during the HS period. The expression levels of the HSP70 (P = 0.0010, moderate; P = 0.0065, severe) and HSP90 (P = 0.0040, severe) genes were increased after rapid exposure to heat-stress conditions (moderate and severe levels). We conclude that HSP gene expression in hair follicles provides precise and accurate data for evaluating HS and can be considered a novel indicator of HS in Hanwoo calves maintained in both external and climatic chambers.

In the current study, for the first time, a semi-analytical technique is used for solving eigenvalue problem arising from linear hydrodynamics stability of fluid flow through the curved rectangular ducts at different curvature ratios and aspect ratios. To this accomplishment, symmetric disturbances are assumed and the Homotopy perturbation method (HPM) is applied to solve our eigenvalue problem for curvature ratios ranging from 0.01 to 0.8 and aspect ratios ranging from 0.05 to 20. Our semi-analytical results are validated through the existing numerical and experimental data, showing good agreement. The semi-analytical results indicate that, as the curvature ratio increases the critical Dean number (Dnc) is increased and the flow becomes more stable, especially for aspect ratios lower than 1.Moreover, for all intended curvature ratios, irregular behavior in variation of Dnc is detected by an increase in the aspect ratio. So that, the Dnc is decreased when the aspect ratio increases from 0.05 up to 1 and the fluid flow becomes unstable. When the aspect ratio is increased from 1 to 5, it causes to increase the Dnc and fluid flow becomes stable. Furthermore, when the aspect ratio increases from 5 to 20, the Dnc is decreased again. In addition, Dnc and eigenvalues of critical complex wave number corresponding to Dnc for the onset of Dean flow instability is reported under different curvature ratios and aspect ratios.

In the present paper, we investigate the hydrodynamic instability of Dean flow under different Dean numbers ranging from 1 to 2500, curvature ratios from 0.0001 up to 1000 and temperatures ranging from 273.15 K to 373.15 K. To study of fluid flow instability, analytical velocity profiles under intended conditions and energy gradient function K in the energy gradient method are evaluated. The results of present study show that, as the curvature ratio increases the flow becomes more stable. Moreover, no regular and significant effects on the energy gradient function K were achieved by increasing of temperatures. We found that, the origin of instability in the entire flow field is located on the inner wall of the parallel curved walls, especially for larger curvature ratios. We also reported the critical value of the energy gradient function K for the onset of instability corresponding to the critical Dean number.

Nano-nozzles are an essential part of the nano electromechanical systems (NEMS). Cross-sectional geometry of nano-nozzles has a significant role on the fluid flow inside them. So, main purpose of the present study is related to the effects of different symmetrical cross-sections on the fluid flow behavior inside of nano-nozzles. To this accomplishment, five different cross-sectional geometries (equilateral triangle, square, regular hexagon, elliptical and circular) are investigated by using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. In addition, TIP4P is used for atomistic water model. In order to evaluate the fluid flow behavior, non-dimensional physical parameters such as Fanning friction factor, velocity profile and density number are analyzed. Obtained results are shown that the flow behavior characteristics appreciably depend on the geometry of nano-nozzle's cross-section. Velocity profile and density number for five different cross sections of nano-nozzle at three various measurement gauges are presented and discussed.

This article is presented the surface tension effect on the two-dimensional blade section of the partially submerged propeller (PSP). In this regard, blade is entered to the water that causes to splash the water due to the impact and free surface. Also, because of the blade's angle of attack suction side is vented by air and pressure side is wetted and gripped the water to generate thrust. The Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) method is used in order to predict the hydrodynamic flow from entering to the exit. Present paper is numerically investigated the effect of free surface and surface tension i.e. related to the Weber number. So, many numerical results are presented and discussed that are included volume fraction, ventilation zones, pressure distributions, vertical and horizontal forces at various Weber numbers.

A new simulation method for solving fluid-structure two-way coupling problems has been developed. All the basic equations are numerically solved on a fixed Cartesian grid using a finite difference scheme. A new definition of velocity-vorticity formulation aids us to introduce an immersed boundary method that does not require a force term to impose the no-slip condition on the solid boundaries. The proposed method is easy to implement and apply for two-way fluid-structure interaction problems. The dynamics of a falling and rising circular cylinder in a quiescent fluid as well as the motion of a circular cylinder in a lid-driven cavity are considered to evaluate the capabilities of the presented method.

An immersed boundary method is proposed for the simulation of the interaction of an incompressible flow with rigid bodies. The method is based on a new interpretation of velocity-vorticity formulation and no longer includes the force term which is an essential issue of common immersed boundary methods. The system is considered in an Eulerian frame and retrieving the vorticity in this formulation enforces continuity at the fluid-solid interface and rigid motion of the solid. The method focuses on the mutual kinematic relations between the velocity and vorticity fields and with retrieving the vorticity field and recalculating the velocities yields the solenoidal velocity field. The method is applied to the two dimensional problems and the results show that the solenoidality is satisfied acceptably. The comparisons with 2D test cases are provided to illustrate the capabilities of the proposed method.

In the present study, the instability of laminar flow of two immiscible fluids is investigated. The theory of energy gradient is employed for the analysis. The distributions of energy gradient for various viscosity ratios, i.e., ratios of lower viscosity to higher one, are obtained and the results for the onset of instability are compared with the available experimental data. The comparison of the results shows excellent agreement with the existing experimental data. It will be also demonstrated that as the viscosity ratio decreases the flow becomes more stable even at high Reynolds numbers.

We have examined the compression response of a ternary Fe2Nb Laves phase by deforming micropillars with a diameter of ~2 μm produced by focused ion beam milling from a two-phase Fe-15Nb-40Ni (at.%) ternary alloy consisting of the Laves phase and γ-Fe. The Laves phase micropillars exhibit high strength of about 6 GPa (of the order of the theoretical shear strength of the material), followed by a burst of plastic strain and shear failure on the basal plane. If dislocation sources are introduced on a non-basal plane in the micropillars by nanoindentation prior to compression, yielding occurs at a significantly lower stress level of about 3 GPa and plastic deformation by slip proceeds on a pyramidal plane close to (-1-122). Furthermore, if regenerative dislocation sources for basal slip are present in the micropillar, the Laves phase can be continuously plastically deformed in a stable manner to at least 5% strain at a significantly lower stress of 800 MPa. We thus demonstrate the plastic deformation of this ternary Laves phase at the micron-scale at room temperature when sufficient dislocation sources are present.
